I posted this once before but I can't find it so I made a new post. Sorry!

When typing an email address in a conversation, as soon as you type the @ symbol, it changes to a mention. If you just ignore it and continue typing the email address and submit your conversation or reply to conversation, you end up with the first part of the email address followed by a hyperlink to Guest.

nameGuest
instead of name@domain.com
Hello Gavin,

Hm, is there a user on the site with the same name with the @domain.com ? The only reason that the domain.com would be hyperlinked is when it detects that its a valid username.

I don't think there is no - I don't have any user called gmail or hotmail, mailru etc. As soon as you type the @ symbol it is highlighted and the next character you type brings up the dropdown "Type a name of your friend" that would show names if any match. It even says "No friends found" but still keeps the @ and everything after it highlighted.
Wouldn't it be possible to check if there is already a character before the @ symbol and if there is, do not activate the mention support? Or just clear it if it doesn't find any friends with that name?

Site details added so you can see.

Just an idea, perhaps the @name should not even attempt to work if it's touching text behind it. So for example josh@mark with this method shouldn't even bring up Mark. Plus it's poor form to have the text touching anyways.

Hm, this is odd because when testing this on my end, http://screencast.com/t/rwj2poUSA it doesn't seem to highlight the item.

Hello Kevin,

Actually this is how the system works. The system will assume that you want to tag your friends. But if you just ignore it and send the message, the message will display correctly: http://screen.stackideas.com/2014-12-05_1624.png

Does not work that way for me Nic, if I ignore it and go ahead and type out the email address when I send everything from and including the at symbol are stripped out.

Can you kindly please start a new thread, and provide us with your account and provide us the message that you are testing this with.

No need, must have been a one off case. I am unable to reproduce the same effect but if it comes up again I will open a new thread.
