Hello,

I have received the notice from one of my readers that when they try to submit a comment, the following error message appears in a red box:
"SyntaxError: JSON.parse: unexpected character at line 1 column 1 of the JSON data".
Other commenters seem to have no problems; at least I can comment without issue, and I have not gotten feedback on the issue from others yet, though comments do appear. Are there any special characters that may cause issues? I remember having one commenter a while back who tried to use mathematical symbols, and that did cause problems.

Also, I can't see how it's possible to reply on a comment, even though I have "max thread 5" in the settings, and "hide replies" is disabled.

Finally a question - if I enable multiple comment systems and integrate Facebook, the little icon showing the number of comments for each post disappears. I had also assumed that the integration would mean that comments made on FB would also appear on the blog on my site, but that seems not to be the case?

Thanks for your help!

Hi Katrin,
"SyntaxError: JSON.parse: unexpected character at line 1 column 1 of the JSON data".
May I know whether the user who posted the comment is a logged in or non-logged in user?

May I post test comments on any post, or is there a specific post I should post test comments on?
Can you provide us the back-end/ftp access by editing the starting post? I can also investigate the comment reply once you provide the access.

The comment count is not supported with Facebook comments. This is why the count does not show when you enable Facebook comments.

Hi Raymond,

it must have been a logged-out user, there's no account with the corresponding mail address. Also, I think I have only guests commenting on the blog as there's no normal site registration, only registration via the shop.

You can comment on any post you like for testing; original post is edited with login for backend.

Regarding the fb posts, it's a bit sad that the comment count is not possible when they are activated - but am I correct in that the comments on FB are not pulled into EasyBlog anyways?

Thanks,
Katrin

Hey Katrin,

The comment reply is not showing due to a custom css(attached). I'm not sure why that custom css was applied. You can try removing it and the comment reply button should appear.

As a guest user, I cannot post a comment(red box) due to a trigger from cleantalk(attached2). Do you recall setting this up somewhere? I don't recall EasyBlog having cleantalk feature.

Yes the comments are not stored on EasyBlog.

Hi Raymond,

Thank you - I've removed the custom css (also don't know why that was applied, possibly to get rid of the "like" thing), and now the reply possibility shows up.

I've set up cleantalk protection for the whole website due to massive amounts of spam that I get otherwise. I have found your comment and the original denied comment in question in the "spam prevented" list and have added you to the whitelist - but probably this was the reason for the comment not being posted, and the json message was just on top of this for some reason.

Yes the comments are not stored on EasyBlog.

Not stored, no - but comments made on the autoposted blog post on FB are also not shown on the blog itself. Is there any crossposting between comments through the FB comment plugin, or is it just using the FB engine?

Thank you,
Katrin

May I know what did you whitelist, was it the email address used? Can you provide me the email address whitelisted so I can try again?

There is no sync feature in FB comment plugin, so commenting on FB side will not be reflected in EB.

Hi Raymond,

Yes, I have whitelisted the mail address, it was t32est@g.com and the IP was also whitelisted (ending on .95).
If I see it correctly you did try again and got spamfiltered again, due to a different mail and IP address.
There have been very few posts that were incorrectly sorted as spam up until now, it's mostly quite reliable.

Thanks Katrin.

I tried posting a comment under t32est@g.com and I no longer encounter the spam protection error. The comment was posted successfully.
