Hi SI Team & Users

I am wondering if any one using Shika here?
https://techjoomla.com/products/shika.html
I tired it about a year ago and felt that it just was more of a work in progress than a finished product.
But they seem to have been pushing out regular updates.
Maybe some one would like to share there experiences or an example site?

It would be a big investment for me so I need to do some home work.

Paul
Hello Paul,

I guess you want a 3rd Party response however if you have any questions specifically, we'd be happy to answer them.

Hi Techjoomla

Yes I am looking for some feed back from Shika users. More or less with respect to how mature Shika is as a component these days. I know that there are a couple of them in here. The Component is to expensive for me to buy as an experiment.

But seeing as how you asked.

Is it possible to have access to courses ONLY via Easy Social groups?*
*I am thinking ES Shika App that can be accessed within a group!
Or odes this even make sense from a Shika perspective?

The thing is that as of now I have gone to a great deal of trouble to sell access to groups via Hika Shop & Hika Market with Fast Spring integration and really want to leave it this way as I am very happy with it.

thanks

Hello Paul,

Currently access restriction is possible via Joomla User Groups.. Not EasySocial Groups..

You can sell User Group Access via Hika Shop or any other ecommerce or Subscription system and set Shika Courses to be only available for that group via Joomla Access levels.

One of the ways Shika integrates with EasySocial is by Auto creating ES groups for every course and adding People who enrol to Shika courses into its own Group to be used as the collaboration area.. We also allow you to chose the group you want to add people to if you existing groups you might have..

So making use of ES Groups as a restricting factor - I'm not sure is a good idea..

Does that make sense ?

Hi, hi

Yes that makes sense.
It is not really what I want/need at the moment but never say never.
Maybe some day...

For me it just makes sense to have

1) Courses in a Group
2) To be able to interact with other members in a Group
3) To have discussions in a Group

I think it is only a matter of time until we can organise stuff like this exactly as we want inside ES:

https://stackideas.com/forums/rearrange-navigation-bar-of-groups-pages-and-events#reply-408828

In an ideal world I would like:

a) Access products via sellers profile (currently have this working)
https://stackideas.com/apps/item/3378-hikashop-app
b) Manage subscriptions with Hika Shop/Hika Market (currently have this working)
c) Have buyers put in ES Groups on purchase (currently have this working with custom plugin)
d) Have training videos in an ES group aka my poor mans LMS (currently have this working/most of the time)
e) Would like for people to be able to access their Shika Course in an ES Group with an App similar to this:
https://stackideas.com/apps/item/3382-joomdle-my-courses-app
Where courses are courses within a group!

I realise that plugging (d) and (e) into Easy Social Shika Style is probably a big deal and not likely to happen any time soon.

thanks all the same

Paul

Hi Paul

So the main thing i see missing here (from a Shika perspective) is having a 'Groups' App that shows Shika courses against linked groups ?

Looks like you have a 'Groups First' Approach to the site i guess Paul ?

Well I would ideally want to get to a Shika course in a group.
As of now I can get to what I call a "learning group" = ES group via the Groups Menu!

Looks like you have a 'Groups First' Approach to the site i guess Paul ?

That is correct.
For me it just makes sense to access every thing in a group or a close to a group as possible.

My approach has lots of little challenges but works more or less.

eg of challenges being

Getting Vimeo videos to display only on my site
Have some kind of video navigation.
The integration with ED could be better = the Social side of things.

I want to promote Social Learning.

best

Hello Paul,

If you want to show Courses inside groups - i think you will the following customisations.

1. Associate a Course with multiple groups (right now the association is many courses to one group)
2. Develop an app that will allow you to showcase the Courses inside groups
3. A nice to have could be to push activities to the group (right now only pushed to User's activity)

Shika already supports Vimeo.

Now sure how you use ED but currently we have a ES Groups integration and clients typically use ES Discussions (sometimes use ED ES integration there)

Hi Parth

Thanks for your detailed reply.

As a matter of interest does Shika support videos from Vimeo that are displayed “Only on sites I choose (Plus + PRO + Business only)” ? Will it also be able to crawl and display the thumbnails? For said videos?

https://help.vimeo.com/hc/en-us/articles/224817847-Privacy-settings-overview?flash_digest=ae53b528a260cea8e17e1f0769586cd0e345ea0e

all the best

Hi,

We support it via ' Only on sites I choose' . Not via the other private link option.. As domain based control is much more flexible..

We do not crawl the thumbnails as of now as none of our current displays demand it

Hi Parth

Using the ' Only on sites I choose' method.

Last question, where are the thumbnails coming from then?

Do you set them on a video by video basis in Shika?

thanks

Hi Paul,

Yes we use that - Only on sites i choose. Right now the Default Shika Course View does not show lesson thumbnails. But there is an ability to upload lesson images in case you want to override and show a view where lesson thumbnails are required.
