I do not really understand your inquiry. Do you mean creating custom badges? If you do, kindly refer to this documentation: https://stackideas.com/docs/easysocial/administrators/achievements/installing-achievements. And you may also use this app: administrator/components/com_easysocial/defaults/badges/apps.badge as a reference on how to create a custom badge.

However, if this is not the case, kindly explain more so we can understand you better.

In ES 4.0 you can assign badges to user profile types. These appear to be icons fron fontawesome possibly? What if we want to use our own custom icons/badges?

Unfortunately, this is not possible. EasySocial will directly fetch the icons from the font-awesome.
