On my site, I have the visibility of the ED5 set to Public in the Joomla menus and manage the access functionality with the ED5 options.

In my user groups, I have two groups below Registered for Members (users who have registered but with an expired subscription) and Subscribers who do have an active subscription. The parent for BOTH groups is the standard Registered Joomla user group.

When I login as either a Member or Subscriber, the Tag post count simply shows 0 for every Tag.

When I click on a Tag name, I do get to see the actual associated posts for that Tag.

When I am logged in as a "Registered" user, the counts work correctly.

It appears that ED5 is not considering that sub groups of the Registered group should also inherit the same visibility for the Tag counts.

Can you please check, or let me know if there is a setting that I can modify in ED5 so it does work?

I need to have the two user groups of Members and Subscribers as subgroups of Registered, so I can specifically show or not show certain modules, WITHOUT these users also still being in the Registered group as a second group.

So it appears to me that the Tag count function is only checking for Registered users but not subgroups of this group.

I think you can try this very easily on your demo site by making a subgroup of Registered and putting one user in there, taken them out of Registered and then see what happens.

Hope that makes sense and thanks for the help.
Hey Net-Config,

Thanks for the info. I am able to reproduce the issue now on the post count in tags listing where the global category permissions are not taken into consideration. Will log this in our tracker.

Hi Net-Config,

I believe the reason you experiencing this is because those new user groups are restricted from viewing discussions in the respective categories.

Can you check the discussion categories and see if they have the respective permissions? Once you enable 'View discussions' permission, they will be able to see the posts in the tag and the count as well.

Hi Raymond,

I was able to solve the problem but believe there is a bug with the "Inherit ACL permission from this category from the global category ACL settings" function.

To solve the 0 for Tag count issue, I unchecked the Inherit option for each of the 4 categories I have and noticed that the Members and Subscribers groups were not selected but all other groups were for View levels.

Without the Inherit ACL function turned on, I then checked those View levels of course for these two groups.

Note that the users with these groups WERE ABLE to see the posts, including the ones associated with a Tag after clicking on the Tag name under the Tags tab. It is just that the Posts Count showed 0 and not the actual number.

Making the settings directly on each Category and not using Inherit ACL solved the problem and I appreciate your recommendation!

So the bug I think may exist here is that it appears that the Inherit ACL function did NOT carry over the selected access settings from the master settings to these categories when I added the two new user groups.

I believe I had the Inherit ACL functions already selected BEFORE I added new groups for Members and Subscribers.

I'm not sure what triggers an update for specific category settings from the Inherit ACL function, but I would think you easily check this by:

1) setting Inherit ACL on a Category
2) creating a new user group and View Level, say called Test
3) updating the Categories global ACL settings with View rights under Settings, so that the Test group has the same ED5 rights as another normal group
4) checking if Tags counts show, which I expect will show ) like they did for me
5) going back into the specific category to determine IF the Inherit ACL function "updated" the view level for the Test group, which I expect to show "not checked" as they did for my categories.

In other words, I suspect there is a "timing" issue here that impacts whether categories will inherit the Global settings or not.

Hope you can determine a clear solution so the Inherit ACL function will work accurately in all ways, as it is very convenient!

Thanks, Net-Config
