I just purchased Komento Professional and have installed it on a staging site on SiteGround. Using Google PageSpeed, I see a 10 point drop in speed rating when I have all Modules and Plugins enabled. I have read a few posts about people uninstalling Komento because of this. I assume this drag on site loading time has not been addressed since those earlier posts. It seems 10 points for a commenting extension is a hefty price to pay. Am I not understanding something here? Does this extension really require that much time to load?

Thanks,
jv
Hello JV,

Hm, I'm not really sure why this is happening because I didn't face any speed drop in our test site. I think what you can do is to reduce the amount of plugins and modules loaded. And if you see this post: http://stackideas.com/forums/can-i-cut-any-setting-to-speed-my-site#reply-102087 , Randall is talking about how to speed your site. This might be helpful.

Hi Nick,

I also recently purchased EasySocial Professional and had a problem testing it on the same staging site with SiteGround. Mark had this to say about that:

There is a known issue with the staging feature from Siteground. Their staging technology rewrites all "domain.com" to "staging.domain.com" on before the data is being sent back to the server. However, this is an issue when the js file is being served. Because we cache our javascripts on the filesystem, these data's aren't using the staging domain because Siteground doesn't rewrite this part and these causes most of the ajax calls to fail.

I wonder if that has anything to do with the 10 point slowdown when the plugs and modules for Komento are enabled.

And thanks for the link, but apparently I need to buy yet another subscription to read that post. I get this message:

Please extend your subscription to view the answers here.

But that's okay. I've read plenty on how to speed up the site and have implemented many of those suggestions. But that still doesn't address the 10 point drop when enabling Komento. Maybe you could ask Mark if he thinks SiteGround's staging area would affect Google PageSpeed ratings.

Thanks,
jv

Hello JV,

It look like my colleague sharing that post thread you do not have permission to view it. Btw, I will share it on here.

There is a very good article titled: Tools and tips to check Joomla site speed and improve performance:
I have to improve site performance also, and will start by following suggestions in this article from Joomlart.com site.

Article: http://www.joomlart.com/blog/news-updates/tools-and-tips-to-check-joomla-site-speed-and-improve-performance.

This articles from Gavick.com titled: How tonSpeed Up a Joomla Website?

Article: http://www.gavick.com/magazine/how-to-speed-up-a-joomla-website.html

Another article from Build A Joomla Website: Speed Up Your Joomla Website with JCH Optimize

Article: http://www.buildajoomlawebsite.com/blog/extensions/speed-up-your-joomla-website-with-jch-optimize

By the way, we are hard to tell you what is the reason causing this without access in your site yet.

Is it possible provide us with your Joomla backend, FTP access and your Google speed rating result access so we can investigate on this?

Thanks for the articles.

With Komento disabled on the site, the Google PageSpeed score is 41/100. With it disabled, the score is 50/100. I currently have Komento Enabled. Please run PageSpeed when you get to this post and confirm that it is 41/100 for you. You can also then see the results of the test to see what is slowing it down. Then you can go into the Admin on the site and disable Komento and run the test again to confirm that it will be 50/100. I assume you will be able to read the test results to see what it is that is creating the 9 point differential. The only thing I am changing is the status of the Komento modules and plugins that show up in Admin/Extension Manager/Manage. Pic attached. Site details below.

Hello JV,

I am sorry for the delay of this reply.

I've confirmed your google page speed load with komento enabled with the score of 41/100 from my side. However I saw only some of the komento script/file that are mentioned during the analyzing. By the way when I'm going to your administrator url, I'm hitting the following security issue, http://screen.stackideas.com/2015-02-24_1724.png thus I cannot confirm the page speed result after disabling the komento.

My apologies. Please find user/pass in Site Details below. Please note, the user/pass below is for the first login you'll see for the password protected admin directory. You will then need to use the second user/pass provided earlier to log into the Joomla back end.

Hello JV,

Sorry for late reply to this,

Firstly, based on the Google page speed show out the result, it complaining about the compression.

I have checked in your site, it seems like you have turn on the Gzip compression from backend right?

But what i noticed is your site css didn't compression yet, check my screenshot below.

If your site already compressed, the content-type should be show Content-Encoding gzip check my screenshot : http://screen.stackideas.com/2015-02-26_1540.png

By the way, can you consult with your Webhosting provider how to enable mod_gzip, mod_deflate from the server?

Because based on my observation, if your server didn't allow the gzip function, your site also didn't get compression one.

You can verify mod_deflate is it enable from your server with this site: http://www.whatsmyip.org/http-compression-test/

And also what i would like to suggest you that install the mod_pagespeed in your site, so that it will make your site page speed more faster a bit.

Hi Arlex,

Yes, I do have GZIP enabled in the Joomla back end. Here is what SiteGround said about the GZIP compression.

The Gzip compression is disabled by default for all of the staging copies. This is the standard functionality of the tool, this is how it is developed and how it should be.

The cause for this is that we are not replacing the URLs in the database for applications, but we are using an Apache module to substitute the live site URLs with the staging site URLs. The Gzip compression could cache a hard coded URL somewhere in your files and this will cause issues to the staging site.

However, once you push the staging to live, you will be able to set up the Gzip compression on the live site and it will work there without any issues.

And thank you for the mod_pagespeed suggestion. I may check into that later. But I'm not trying to ask how to speed up the site. What I'm trying to determine is whether or not the Komento extension is going to put a 9 point slowdown on my site. Hopefully, the info above can help you determine the cause of the slowdown.

Also, for what it's worth, when I enable EasySocial on this same staging site, there is no slowdown. The PageSpeed score is the same. It's only when I enable Komento.

Thanks.

Hello Jv,

The only reason why Google Pagespeed is putting 9 points lower is simply because of their algorithm in calculating the scores. If you have another file which they seem to complain about, it might eventually drop 12 - 13 points down. We cannot be certain as to how Google's Pagespeed algorithm is behaving as but once you have those optimizations in place, it should sort out those score

You are most welcome JV By the way, as Arlex pointed out earlier, as soon as you add gzip compressions you will notice a huge difference
