Thank you for your valuable feedback, this is an open user forum to help guide the StackIdeas Team in a direction that the users of their software will most benefit. This is NOT a post on behalf of the StackIdeas Team and there is NO guarantee that your suggestions will be included in the upcoming 2.0 release or any future release.
There are also some other features, which we will not disclose YET But yeah, let's keep this thread active and I am extremely excited to listen to your opinions.

By the way, I beg that you do not post replies that sounds like below:

EasySocial 2.0 must have [xxxx] features because it is the most important feature in this world because it is useful for my site.

We build software for hundreds and thousands of sites. Everyone has their own way of building their own social network and I honestly want to include every single suggestions that you guys bring up but it's not going to be feasible to add everyone's desire.

If your suggestion / feedback is not implemented for any reasons at all, don't sit at a corner and sulk Gather a group of users that have a common problem / symptom and share it on the voices page.

Thank you Mark for your reply.

I strongly agree, if you have issues, a need or general concern that you feel is NOT being heard huddle with others that have a similar interest and your voice will be heard more easily.

What I would like to see for the following:

Paid Memberships:
- Multiple Payment Gateways; PayPal, PayPal Pro, 2Checkout, Amazon, Google, Stripe, Admin Pay, Offline, Authorize.net, Pay with User Points
- ACL Control; Joomla Level i.e. Modules, Menus, Content, User Group Assignment
- ACL Control; EasySocial Level i.e. Profile Type and User Group Assignment, Application Control, Custom Field Control
- Trial Membership Option
- Detailed Statistics for the user in the Control Panel; i.e. Membership Type, Renewal Link, Upgrade Link, Days Left, If restrictions are associated with the profile for example they can create (1) group and have create none it should say " Groups - You have create 0 of 1 groups." and so on for other restrictions.
- Synchronized Account Information; This should be a no brainier since it would be built into the ES platform but this means user data is all located in one place
- Workflow Customization's; i.e. If a free account, skip invoice. i.e. If integrating with JFBConnect or using the built in Facebook make sure the user follows a specific workflow to ensure they are assigned to a specific Membership
- FORCE Membership or no access

I am sure there are more, I will add them as I think of them.

These are just suggestions based on other Membership Softwares I have used and things that would benefit me. A good reference would be: JPayPlans and OSMembership Pro. Both has strong and week points.

Something I would love to see in EasySocial 2.0:

- Restructured Conversations consistent with EasyDiscuss
- Email / Notification Digests with user selected notification intervals:
Instant
Daily
Weekly
Bi-Weekly
Monthly
None
- Include Groups and Events custom fields with Advanced Search as well as Filtering of results
- More Social Authentication Integrations; Google, Twitter, Instagram, Yahoo, Etc.

Hey guys, I am interested in seeing a similar interest between users such as "meet me" that tagged.com uses or Encounter. Where user can show interest for another by liking a user's Avatar images, filter by user location, ages etc.

Are the accepted features listed on the voices page for Easysocial version2 definite?
The reason I ask is that I was looking at http://stackideas.com/roadmap/easysocial and I was unable to see some of the accepted features. I'm particularly interested in the feature "to limit the awarding of points for a rule to one time only, once a day, once a week, once a month, once a year or unlimited." It is listed on voice at http://stackideas.com/voices/easysocial/item/192

Also I must apologize, because I just fired off a similar question to support before noticing this forum topic. Sorry about that

Roadmap seems interesting and some nice features being discussed. but most of these features are simply enhancements to an already good system.

What is missing is a mobile strategy that will allow us to remain competitive.

The current mobile/responsive Easysocial is clunky and the overall mobile experience is well below what desktop users get. Its the most common complaint we get - the mobile site is not user friendly (or as our members put it - Easysocial on mobile *****!)

Why all the focus on mobile?
Thats where the market is and that's where our members are going.
If we think that simply adding "features" is going to keep our members engaged, think again!
Here is a simple statistic: 90% of Facebook’s daily active users access it via mobile and 54% use mobile only.

Surely improving the mobile experience should be the number 1 focus for Stackideas???

My suggestions for the roadmap (in order of preference/easyness):

  1. For the responsive Easysocial webpage, just get the sidebar to close after an item is selected. Currently the new content appears underneath the sidebar and there is no notification of this. Members click and see no change, so they think nothing has happened. Hence the comments on not user-friendly.
  2. Add webpage push to Easysocial (Its not supported on IE but for mobile its not an issue.) This should be relatively easy to do since Google etc already have fully-developed API's.
  3. Add proper front-end moderation to Easysocial (use the built-in Joomla Moderator category to allow removal of stream posts, avatar pictures, editing in-appropriate profile information). Right now moderation is only available from the back-end. Any site which wants to build a large userbase needs to be able to appoint moderators who don't have back-end access - they are there for moderation, not design!. Also, Easysocial overrides the Joomla ACL, so if I allow a moderator back-end access to moderate EasySocial profiles, they could even delete or change the super-user!)
  4. Add a decent Android/IPhone app for Easysocial with push notifications. Appcarvers has an app but its a long way from being where it should be. Maybe a partnership there would provide a quick start?

@Marc Bills, I think these are excellent points that I had missed myself.

The mobile interface is a bit lacking and the menu/sidebar is very out dated. Its not too difficult to built a much cleaner interface for mobile use with regards to responsiveness so like you I am giving this a +1 . The mobile app development I feel is a lot more involved and probably not something StackIdeas can do alone and I personally am not so sure AppCarvers is the team to partner with on this one. But, strategically speaking if I was StackIdeas I would invest some efforts into this as well.

Do you have any design illustrations you could provide that would give the StackIdeas team an idea of what you feel the Mobile (responsive) interface should look like?

@Creative, this is a post to discuss the features users of EasySocial would like to see in 2.0, not a Q/A about upgradability. You will want to re-post your question in the general support section. FYI, there is no 1.9...

Marc,

Good point! Our designers are working on restructuring / reforming the layout in EasySocial 2.0. As I said on the other posts earlier, we are trying to fine tune our layouts so that it looks standardized across all our extensions.

We are trying out some really cool layouts for mobile and I am really hoping that we could push this into 2.0.

James,

Mobile app development is something really new for us and to be honest, we don't have enough developers around to build a native mobile app. All of our developers are focusing on the web and to make matters worst, we have 4 different products to support.

Not to mention, our support is being abused heavily across all 4 products which causes problems to our growth. This is also one of the reasons why we are taking the necessary measures to restrict the support on domains.

@ James frankly a lot of your suggestions are over my head!
I understand most of your Paid membership ideas and agree.
Have played with Payplans and find it pretty tricky for my level of Web understanding.
Never used/heard of OSMembership Pro!
But will at least check their page.

@ Anyone who might be interested:

I have two areas where I would love to see some improvements:

This is in the voices section and I voted for it:

http://stackideas.com/voices/easysocial/item/1187

It would seem to me to make sense to be able to add a link in a video description to e.g. an EB article!
Further I could add links that would let me jump to specific places in a video.
http://www.wikihow.com/Link-to-a-Certain-Time-in-a-YouTube-Video

And here is my second idea.
I have been meaning to put it in the voices section for a while now.
I do not mean to hijack this thread but… Subtitles. Yep.

Whether you love it or hate it YouTube can generate reasonably decent Subtitles for You.
https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/2734796?hl=en

You can download a SRT file and pimp it in something like this:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/srt-edit-pro-make-and-edit/id876201241?mt=12

You can even go the extra mile and do some translations with something like this:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/subtitle-translation-wizard/id687194646?mt=12

Subtitles open up your video content to people who speak different languages.
i.e. more viewers/hits…

And have a whole lot of other possibilities.

Some subtitle formats allow you to insert:

Chapters
Markers for video navigation
And much more

Ultimately subtitles files could be plugged into some kind of search plugin and make videos searchable.
I am aware that this last point is probably a pipe dream at the moment.

I am not sure if I am the only one who wants subtitles for videos?
Would be curious to hear if any one else is interested?
Should I post a request for Subtitles (Closed Captions) for videos in the voices section?

best

Paul

Something I would like to see is Dymanic Field Groups in EasySocial Profile's.

This means that a user can input information for a group of fields and if they have additional information to input they can click an "Add More" button and all of the fields within that field group would replicate allowing them to add more information.

A few examples: Work History, Education, Training, etc...

I like how Joomla is slimming down by removing components from the main distribution. It would be nice if Stackideas followed this approach and made some of its features optional. In my case, I already have a subscription system, so if I don't end up using the Stackideas one, I'd like to be able to uninstall it.

Hello

I only have minor evolution requests for EasySocial 2.0, that are in my signature below.

The 1st one is exactly what Marc Bills suggested and I understand that there will be some major layout changes on mobile in ES 2.0 so I am expecting the best

The 2 other requests were not retained for ES 2.0 so far, despite they got a reasonable number of votes

Thanks, if your feature request wasn't accepted, please don't put any hard / personal emotions. We only have a handful of developers around and if it doesn't get into 2.x, it will most likely be in the next iteration

Another feature I thought of that would be an awesome addition and I believe has been request previously is Group Member Types. I have post the feature request to voices:

http://stackideas.com/voices/easysocial/item/1242

It seems as though this might be something that a lot of us are after and has many use cases.

Thanks,

Hey James,

Most of us are actually occupied with the development of 2.0 and this is going to be a major update. It's really a huge update and I like what I am seeing right now.

We are not ready to disclose anything at this point of time for some other reasons.

I would like to see both Group and Event Completion Modules and Notifications similar to the Profile Completion.

Imagine creating an event via the stream app and only inputting a small fraction of the needed information. Because we "know" EasySocial we realize this is not enough to make a true event but our users will not know in most cases. In this case we should either re-direct them to the event details page or provide a notification that the details of the event are not complete.

Thanks for your input on this Chaim! EasySocial 2 is shaping up really great We are still burning the midnight oil and my key priority in 2.0 would be to speed things up. There are huge amounts of code refactoring being done right now to optimize the way streams are loaded and to speed up releases in the future.

One of our biggest hurdle (or I would say failure) is to add too many features and in 2.0, we are making things leaner, simpler and almost maintenance free

Can you say anything about a ES Store if it will make it into 2.0 version or not?

Hm, 2 issue? Where did you heard or saw this? It's almost 90% right now, based on what the issue tracker is showing me and a new blog post is scheduled soon to let you guys know the progress of 2.0

While some of our devs are finishing up the pending tasks, most of us are running internal testings right now to ensure that everything is in place.

@James -

I like the way you think, Sir! I would mostly mirror every single item/point you've made to begin/throughout this post. Just to chime in if only to reiterate a few primary points from my own end:

  • Cleaner URL's Through All Of EasySocial: this has just got to be dealt with - I've read throughout the Forums on this issue and - while no, I am certainly not a developer! and fully realize issues with base code are/can be complex or provide for unique difficulties, for the life of me i cannot see why this even exists as an issue. I haven't had to wrangle with IDs in Joomla in a few years now. SEF URLs (no IDs!) are simply a must - Joomla leaves this up to the 3rd Party Components routers to address individually - the only components I use (and I use tons) that cannot render clean URLs are the ES/EB/ED suite. I even use a lot of unicode in some of my sites and still don't have any issues with IDs showing in my urls with other components (JReviews provides a good example here I think - unicode or not, I always have clean urls out of this component). Just having "dirty" urls is one thing, but when we are publicly exposing the Joomla user IDs of Site Administrators/Super Users (and everyone else) my paranoia over security goes through the roof. Just saying...
  • ACL Stats for Users: I typically deploy the ACL Manager component anyway, but even so tracking ACL in ES/EB/ED is cumbersome.
  • Mapping of standard profile fields to Joomla User Groups and across the platform: I admit it's early on in my review of all the products here, so I could very well be missing something entirely obvious here, but: I don't see the logic in having default profile fields in one component (ES) that do not map directly to Joomla User Group or even parallel those found in ED (for example, ED has great default fields for Social Media Networks applied to profile, yet none exist for Easy Social? Having ES handle User Registration imo then becomes an issue across other components within a site (since they aren't mirrored to Joomla (and you lose any custom fields for their Profile as soon as any User has their ES Profile changed?!). I would think that at minimum a User's Social Media deets would preferably be applicable to your Social/Community profile over one in a Forum. The ED default profiles appear to be mapped/synced with those of core Joomla - why not for ES?
  • Paid Memberships: I realize other priorities overtook this development (and I even see some rationale in leaving this to other 3rd party components altogether), but I do see real value in extending some of the ACL inherent in the suites into a Paid Membership development. The extensibility of EasySocial here would really make its purchase for future buyers a slam-dunk, as well as ensuring overall stability of deployment (I can't tell you how many times I've cobbled together other Payment/Membership/Subscription components that worked well-enough initially only to be left with a MAJOR problem for our sites down the road as those developers either stopped supporting the underlying components they were meant to serve or the development pieces became so disjointed from each other's release cycles that they became entirely dysfunctional. On the one hand, I can see leaving Paid Membership to other components but from a real-world, production perspective? I think SI is going to need to implement this eventually and regardless. We'd be happy to beta-test!
