Hello,

Users are complaining of multiple emails of notifications. In some instances, users have had upto 12 of the exact same message within a second.

This is a major issue as people are now asking to delete their accounts.

My Cron jobs are also affected as the messages get duplicated. I've had to disable.

Please assist.

Similar issues seems to have occurred with easy blog.

Please advise of a fix or workaround .

Thanks
Thanks Mark.

I'll seek to resolve this.

Regards,

Michael

Hi Mark,

Prior to setting up a cron, this issue existed. Just a handful of complains here and there as this arose from notifications (friend request, message e.t.c)

The cron was only set up 2days ago, and when the cron ran, the entire users in the database got the multiple messages causing the mass complain.

The interval was once daily set to run at 12 noon (UK time).

Hey Michael,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply as it is a weekend for us here. Hm, both the site access and cpanel access is not working. Can you please edit your first post and include the following access?

- Site access
- FTP access
- Cpanel access (To review your cronjob)

Hi Mark,

Details have been updated.

Please be advised, the cron has presently been set to 0 decimals (no timer set) to avoid further disruptions.

Michael

Hey Michael,

I noticed that the option "Process emails on page" is also enabled. There is a possibility that when the cron kicks in, someone else is also accessing the page at the same time which leads to these "duplicates" being generated.

I have temporarily turned this off, can you try to re-enable the cronjob?

Hi Mark.

I shall re-enable and observe.

However, as advised earlier, prior to setting the cron up, basic ES notifications generated the same error. Let's hope this resolves it. I shall keep you informed.

Hey Michael,

If the cronjob only runs once a day, it's impossible for it to generate duplicates. The other possibility of the cron generating duplicates is when the cron interval overlaps each other but since you mentioned it only run once a day, it should be fine.

Hi Mark,

See attached a screen shot showing 3 consecutive email notifications of a user joining a group. This is purely wishing ES.

Hey Michael,

What about the recipient's e-mail address? Are they all sent to the same user?

Hey Michael,

Hm, when logged into your cpanel, I noticed that the cronjob that you have created isn't for EasySocial but it is from JMailAlert. Is this a custom extension that processes notifications for EasySocial?

Hi Mark,

No. The cron simply handles the alert customised within the Jmail extension, however, this syncs with Es users, thus, they receive this specific notifications via es. That's all

Again, as highlighted, before installing this extension, this issue existed but we received mass complains when we started sending mails to all users in the database.

Thanks

I believe it could be JMail that is causing this. Can you remove this cronjob and only utilize the one from EasySocial?

Mark, the cron runs a specific notification created in jmail alert.

The notifications of ES are solely from ES.

The attachment I showed you with multiple notifications was prior to installing that extention. If you will, I can show you an array of lots more. This issue existed before this extention. In the not to distant past, I had raised this with yourself.

I'm certain it has nothing to do with the jmail extention or cron. It's not responsible for friend notifications, groups, and other ES related notifications.

Hey Michael,

Earlier I have switched off the cronjob for "Process emails on page load". If there is no cronjob created for EasySocial on your cpanel, there is no way emails are being sent out.

Hey Michael,

Let me know if there are still duplicates being generated because right now, since the option "Send email on page load" is disabled, your user's wouldn't be getting any emails at all.

If they are still getting e-mails, then it would be from the cronjob.
