Hello guys

I think i have a great news for'you if you are looking for a great lms extension with an ES integration

I made recently a comment on the ijoomla blog about the easysocial guru app, they are open to developp this app if they see some interested perons :

If we see that more customers are asking for such integration, we will re-consider.

any interested persons ?
Great! Thanks for sharing But I think Shika is already compatible with EasySocial eh?

Yes Shika is compatible with ES, Its is a good extension but not so mature as Guru which exist since many years now (v5)

UI is not the same, in my opinion Guru UI is cleaner, for price Guru have a free version, the pro version cost 300$ instead of 700$ for Shika (very expensive) for 12 month both.

For features i believe Shika have more features then Guru.

Not that I am an expert about these matters but the main advantage that I see with Guru is that they allow people to people to add courses at the front end. Also some thing that Eileen O'Donnell mentioned is that Guru offers a site admin the possibility to earn money off users creating courses.

I have played around with both Guru & Shika. IMHO Guru seems powerful but some how cobbled together whilst Shika seems less powerful if some what more consistent! I am still on the fence about this one. I tried implementing Payplans and ran into some problems that were over my head. Thus I have put Payplans on hold.

I am still very curious about a SI shop and the possibilities that this opens up. Maybe even some Group functionality!?! I know that if the s**t hits the fan that SI will save my "derrière" as one says in French.

I am huge fan of EB Templates which could be set up for a course containing XYZ or ABC respectively!

Hi,

I too am after this. Are all those interested in a Guru integration App interested in clubbing together to get it developed?

Mark, how much is it likely to cost? I just basically want to show Courses I take, Courses I teach and My Certificates on my user profile pages.

I am guessing IJoomla would prefer people to just use Jomsocial so won't be in any hurry to develop one.

Kind regards

Mel

To be honest I am not expecting from Guru and if they decided that their extension should only work with their own, we'll probably partner with another reputable one.

I am looking forward to work with the guys from Joomlashack for OSCampus, https://www.joomlashack.com/blog/joomlashack/oscampus/

Hello guys,

I have bought nearly all extensions from iJoomla, did not renew...
These last 2 weeks I have received nearly 20 emails (or should I call them spam) from them to renew my subscriptions with Big (HUGE) discounts...

I also had emails with iJoomla support and Merav but you cannot trust her !
You will be waiting for years... browse their forums for similar demands you will understand.

I finally decided to buy from Techjoomla mainly because Mark "supports" them.
I bought Quick2Cart, SocialAds and JBolo.

I clearly would have preferred the AdAgancy (but misses important mandatory tax features for Europe and of ES social targeting integration). As always best would be a mix of the 2

JBolo is just OK, nothing exceptional nothing really bad...let's see how Conversekit will compare to JBolo

Quick2Cart is very simple, has the main mandatory features but misses other important ones to be really fully usable in my needs.

I cannot compare iGuru to Shika I did not test or bought Shika, but Shika is waaayyy too expensive !

There are many subjects about Techjoomla in Stackideas forums, every time the same arguments AGAINST Techjoomla come back.

The only solution I see is that @Mark has (again) a serious talk with these guys to improve and level up their job to Stackideas users expectations.

Hi,
I have numerous products from Techjoomla including quicktocart, I haven't gone to Shika as I have too many niggles with some of their other products i.e. JGive. I love them in concept, but they always require a lot of work to get working for my needs. also I use a lot of Stackideas, IJoomla and tons of others from other providers. Stackideas are by far the superior developers, but unfortunately they cannot create everything I used Guru a few years back and had loads of issues, but they were corrected. I have persevered, and their latest version seems vastly improved (time will tell if this is really the case). I contacted IJoomla today, and received an email back saying they are speaking to their developers about this, so fingers crossed. I supposed they are afraid of the competition with EasySocial, but infact, creating these apps is a way of getting more sales, as otherwise people who need/prefer to use EasySocial over Jomsocial will simply move to an alternative solution. Here hoping we get the best of both worlds

Have you guys tried OSCampus yet? I have tried their extension and it seems to be pretty good and simple. To be honest, I am having a lot of cool ideas of how we could integrate OSCampus into EasySocial .

Check out their blog post here, https://www.joomlashack.com/blog/joomlashack/oscampus/

OSCampus seems to be powering OSTraining, Joomlashack University and Joomla's official training site and it would definitely be something solid, otherwise it wouldn't be implemented on these sites yeah?

Hi Mark,

I am always willing to try new things and will take a look at OS Campus. However, I personally still also need Guru as the users will not want to change again so soon, and we have come a long way.

I had a reply off IJoomla, they say you have both been in contact over this in the past regarding integration, and if enough EasySocial users want it, then it would be best if you developed the integration with their support. Is this not something you could do and then allow us to purchase it like we purchase other apps?

It would be handy to know how many others would be interested in this.

Hi Mark,

thanks for a response. Am I right in thinking this isn't going to happen as sense a reluctance? If not, can you recommend anyone who could help us develop the app so at least we have something for the sites we currently run it on?

No, it has nothing to do with them being our competitors, we even have an extensive set of plugins for JomSocial

I know, I have them which is why in 'my ' perfect world, stackideas would be the best to provide us with the integration app for Guru.

I have gone down the Moodle road myself.
It does integrate with ES and Antonio from Joomdle has been very helpful.

Moodle:

+ Very, very, very powerful
+ Can be expanded and customized in a million different ways
+ Plug in even more stuff in with for e.g. Poodll inside Moodle
+ Works with ES via Joomdle today!
- As clunky as HELL
- Is a nightmare to configure and maintain!
- After years of SI products it feels/looks outdated and bloated!

I would love to see a “great” Joomla native App integrate with the best Joomla Community Component on the planet!
Aka ES.

Hi Jean,

I too have invested in Guru Pro too, I am wishing they would develop integration too. I am guessing Jomsocial are reluctant to do this as they prefer us to use Jomsocial (which I do on one site) but I much prefer EasySocial as it better meets my needs. For me Guru + EasySocial would be my perfect combination.

Hi Mel,

I actually was very unhappy with Jomsocial a reason why i changed to ES. I was looking for a good and easy to use LMS for a customer and bought Guru5 but to be honest I also do regret it a bit. Support is not good, updates are rarely and features do also not get added often. Support here is way better

I have tested both Guru & Shika.

IMHO

- Guru seems antiquated, convoluted, bloated and their support is probably not so hot.
+ If you have the patience and the nerves and can hack some stuff maybe you can get it to work for you soonish.

- Shika felt like really expensive Aplha software (1 year ago*) and I have not had great experience with their support.
+ If you can wait for Shika to mature and do not need much support maybe you can get it to work for you some time.

*Here is a comment from the last Post about Shika on the Techjoomla Blog.

For me Shika is ~33% built features wise, with very core basic features implemented

On a side note I have the feeling that LMSs were born before the explosion of video and video playlists on the internet and are for this reason often fundamentally flawed!!! Just Saying.

I need to start taking a more detailed looked at OS Campus the new kid on the block!

Where did all this chat about LMS and EasySocial end up?

Did Guru get an ES integration?

Did OSCampus get an ES integration?

I'm looking for some that I can plug into my ES site and use to sell online material.

I have recently seen this https://www.podia.com/ not for an ES integration but its what sparked me to start think about something I can plug in to ES.

Stack - what do you suggest?

Community - any experience or showcases of an ES/LMS selling course site?

It was Mark that started to get us to adopt OSCampus that was 19 months ago...
Introducing OSCampus, the New Joomla LMS
Mark Lee Wednesday, 14 September 2016
Congratulations on this milestone! This is amazing guys! I am very interested in integrating OSCampus with EasySocial. There are a ton of users looking for a learning management extension that works with EasySocial.

steve Wednesday, 14 September 2016
Wonderful, thanks, Mark. Can you ping our support team or email me? We'd be happy to talk

Mark Lee Thursday, 15 September 2016
Will definitely do that soon! Thanks @steveburge

Mark Lee Thursday, 06 October 2016
Hey Steve,Can I know which e-mail that I could reach? I hope this is not considered a spam but do check out
stackideas.com/foru...I am very keen in building an OSCampus app that powers profile on EasySocial.

steve Thursday, 06 October 2016
Hey MarkI'm at steve @ ostraining .com

At the time I invested in OSCampus and also in the translations.
Now I can tell you I am well disappointed, who would not after paying and translating for what - nothing !

I do not now what OSCampus is really worth today but at the time of stable version there was
- not even the possibility to create subcategories (still not possible I believe)
- no acl (acl now available)
- no multilingual association
- and most importantly not accessible from the front end for teachers !!

Where do we stand ?
NOWHERE ! as Guru and AdsManager are held by Joomlart who is blocking from being integrated with SI components and Techjoomla is one of the worst company to work with.... so yes nowhere

I gave up on Moodle over a year ago. Something as simple as getting courses to display the same way on different devices was a real pain. I felt that it was a full time job just to maintain the LMS side of things!!! Moodle is insanely complex. Shika is for me as of now to expensive, not over the moon about the ES intergration and am skeptical about some other stuff as well. I have what I call my poor mans Easy Social LMS. It consists of the following:

(a)
Vimeo Plus account.

(b)
I use the Vimeo display videos “Only on sites I choose' function to post to a ES Group.
I have to post the videos backwards to get them to display in the right order a bit of a pain but it works.
And Arlex helped me crawl the Thumbnails from Vimeo

https://stackideas.com/forums/thanks-you-for-going-the-extra-mile

(c)
I use this simple and also some what awkward work flow to manage video navigation:
Where I use Sorcerer from RegularLabs
https://www.regularlabs.com/extensions/sourcerer#editor-button

https://stackideas.com/forums/simple-trick-to-navigate-from-previous-to-next-video

Where I also used: https://bitly.com/

To shorten my URLs (Possibly redunant now as I believe the Video Truncation settings might have changed/been fixed)

When cleaner URLs come out for ES I will probably have to relink a lot of these links. Again!

(d)
And I had to revers the order of the Groups so that things make sense.
https://stackideas.com/forums/getting-to-other-video-categories-from-specific-any-categories-page

Of course there is more to it than this but it kind of works and there are only a couple of minor problems left TODAY.

I am looking forward to....

This being implemented so that I/we can better order stuff better as requested here:

https://stackideas.com/forums/rearrange-navigation-bar-of-groups-pages-and-events#reply-408828

And then I can make things easier for people to navigate and find = I do not want my discussions to be in a sub menu!

For me there are 2 really frustrating thing about this whole situation. I feel that the traditional (even newer) LMS systems are out dated and on the other hand ES is soooooooo close to being a Modern Social LMS pretty much out of the box!!!
