The difference here is using Youtube API basically has a clear quota when fetching data from Youtube, which you can view in your Google console.
If the non API method is used, the quota may be much lower and Youtube may even block data request from the IP address that is generating a lot of traffic by requesting lots of data.
When Youtube blocks the traffic, the site will not be able to render Youtube properly, which has happened in the past to users. Therefore, the API method can be used to avoid said issue.
