Hello,

Why is the system sending a username and password when you are registering with FBC? Isn't the user suppose to use FBC instead of a username and password.
This is because sometimes the user might want to login using normal accounts instead of Facebook connect if they want to

It's kinda confusing, don't you think?
The whole purpose of using FBC is to login with FB, and not have to deal with another username and password.

Hi Checksum,

I am sorry for the delay of this reply.

I agreed that when login / register with FBC, user should not bother with another username and password. What EasySocial provide your user is the another way of accessing the site Your user can safely discard the username / password generated by EasySocial

Anyway, if you do not want your user to receive another username / password, then you will need to customise EasySocial. I might able to assist you regarding this matter, if you are ok with this approach

Please advise.

Hope this help and have a nice day

Hi Sam,
It's redundant to be able to have 2 logins to a website.
Maybe add an option to be able to send the login/pass info or not. I am not sure what others think about this.

It does not bother me per say, but I see where a user can be confused, because I was confused at first when i saw it.

Doesn't JFBConnect have an option to generate a username and password invisibly to the user?

Maybe that's an approach to take with FBC?

Hi Mark H,
I a not sure if JFBC sends a username/password when you register with FBC, or if it is optional or not.

Can anyone with JFBC confirm that?

Thanks

It is actually not redundant to also provide the user with a password. It makes perfect sense if the user is also given a password if there are specific actions where the user would like to set a password for their account in the future or de-authorize their Facebook account (It's not there yet but it will be). I don't think you want the users to be deleted if they deauthorize their account.

Yes, JFBC can generate a username, password and gives you the option to send these to the user (see my screenshots).

You would however have to carefully reword the registration email, as it could get very confusing.

I agree with what Mark says here.

I've been doing lots of testing (with JFBC, but the same principle applies for the built in FB reg/login) and you do need to have a proper Joomla user account created. Personally, I would not send the user a registration confirmation with their u/n and p/w, as I feel it would lead to confusion, but I would let users know how to get access to their account if they no longer user the social network they registered with.

Thanks for the heads up on this Mark Perhaps in the future, we could create a separate email that would be used for users who registers with their Facebook account.

That sounds like a very good plan Mark. JFBConnect could also select that email then. It's a nice way to welcome new users.
