thanks for the update - now I was able to login

there were some probs related to the configuration of sh404 that was trying to do it's job while at the same time it was globally disabled in it's admin. I re-enabled sh404 and the login works fine now. please re-check and let me know how it goes at your end.

Oh wait. I misunderstood, so it's on now. Hm, but it did work before with sh404 turned off. I'd rather have it off now as it's still a test site and it causes other problems on the site (page loading)
