Many of us have learned some of the new general features and refinements that are going into EasyBlog 4.0, and if you are like me, you like to get a brief status update so you can make your own forward looking site development plans.

Mark, I know you and the rest of the SI Team are very busy with EB 4 and ES 1.3, and need to keep some of the specifics of new features in EasyBlog 4.0 confidential, but can you drop some hints to tease us with some type of status update?

Thanks
Hm, I think you should expect a different level of blogging in EasyBlog 4.0. Easy blog just got easier blog

I'll be ready to test 4.0 when you are ready to Shock us all. Really looking forward to what you've cooked up in EB 4.0.

Mark is more secretive than Steve Jobs was with new Apple product features. I hear the StackIdeas Team has a locked room protected by two guards where development for EssyBlog 4.0 is taking place.

I've heard the Stackideas under ground bunker is so well protected that even the CIA doesn't know what's going on with the development of EB 4.0! #worldbestkeptsecret #nobodyknows #shockofourlives

I sure hope EB 4 will include an email digest features, so that subscribers can get weekly or monthly digests besides individual blog posts via email notification. Email Digest is critical to a successful blog nowadays.

I have added Email Digest to EasyBlog 4 Voices here for people to vote.

Personally, aside from the obvious need for multiple different frontpage layout styles with multiple columns and better responsive design. The one feature I hope that they really focus on is modules... Stackideas is the best component maker out there, but when it comes to modules, they definitely need to step up their game.... and this is not just for EasyBlog, the same applies to EasySocial. My biggest challenge when trying to design a site using EasyDiscuss, EasyBlog and EasySocial is the fact that I just do not have access to the right modules to make the experience seamless across the whole site. Fingers crossed that more attention gets paid to modules in up coming releases

Janik,

Modules are definitely import and I do believe I read before that the SI Team will be focusing on improving the modules.

Q: What type of features do you think are needed to improve the EasyBlog 4 Modules?

Well my ultimate dream would be to see an all in one sidebar, an all in one toolbar, an all in one horizontal menu (if we want to make our own toolbar). There also is a big need for some very customizable latest articles type modules for the frontpage to feature either above or to the right of EasySocial. I don't just want a box lol. Look at JA Argo, I like their latest theme module, the only thing I hate is that the pictures have to be square for it to work.

We have talk, long time ago, I thinkfrom the beggining of Easyblog about a plugin to display easyblog post list anywhere in joomla article or ther component using a code with bracket like {easyblog= .....}.
It was on the list for version 2.0 but never come neither in 3.0

So do you think this plugin will come this time?
Hopefully yes:p

Hello greg,

Plugins / modules will only be worked on as soon as we complete the main extension. I would say, the main extension is going through 99.9% change in terms of UI and UX

I am converting a site from Word Press for Joomla, to EasyBlog. EasyBlog is by far a better component. One feature that WP for joomla had that I don't see in EasyBlog is the ability to have multiple blogs--each blog having it's own theme, categories, and the ability to allow users to create their own blogs on the site. Is this functionality on the list for easyblog 4,0 or maybe a further upcoming version?

Please ??

Hello guys,

In EasyBlog 4.0, you can have theme overrides for categories and we'll also be moving most of the settings per category basis. As for "multiple blog", it's treated differently in Wordpress compared to EasyBlog. In EasyBlog, we treat each user's blog as a blog so you can actually create multiple authors on the site and create menu items which link to them

Hello,

you can vote on voice for "user own blog"
http://stackideas.com/voices/easyblog/item/300

OWN PRIVATE BLOG :
user can post on site blog or just on their "personal" blog
user can create his own categories : only visible and usable by him
admin can choose by ACL if users have the right to have a personnal blog or only publish on public blog

etc...

EasyBlog 4 is not just a "major" update, it's almost a "total rewrite" with the entire UI from scratch again. We will blogging about it once we have more solid videos

Lefteris, all indications point to the contrary. It seems development has been in full swing for a while now. It is my understanding that development is far enough for them to intend to post a blog with videos of the progress any day now. I think they are further along than they make it seem.

Based on my observations, it seems that EB 4.0 and ES 1.3 developments are in full swing, but that their intended release dates have been pushed back to solve some very important performance and scalability issues with EasySocial. It seems they aren't satisfied with the way the stream is working, it seems to be too resource heavy on high traffic websites. As such, it seems that they consider that a critical issue to solve prior to releasing new features in either EB and ES. I am assuming because they realize that as soon as they release new features in any of their products, they will have to shift their resources to providing support, as everytime there is a major code, feature or layout change, people have more questions and potential compatibility issues to be solved. Meaning that subscribers with high traffic EasySocial sites will have to wait longer for solutions.

Anyway, I will let Mark or Support answer this more accurately.. as I am just pointing out observations from spending a lot of time on this forum. I honestly do not know their plans, and for all I know everything I just said could be wrong

Hello Jannik,

Spot on and you are absolutely right. While we were working on EasySocial 1.3 and EasyBlog 4.0, we have been receiving a number of tickets / forums (As some of you may have noticed yourself) regarding performance issues on the stream. We had to stall our development for EasySocial 1.3 and EasyBlog 4.0 so that we can focus on the performance issues within the stream itself. In fact, there are just so many changes in 1.2's stream that we should really be labeling it as 1.3 instead but to avoid any misunderstanding, we decided to stick with 1.2

Yes, we did push back the dateline but it's entirely because we had to focus on what's more important which is the performance of the stream

Ty for the comments, but you didn't quote about having a release till the end of 2014 or way earlier

I am building a new project that Easyblog will play a major part on it and hope to have EB4 on it. So yes it's pushed back, but it means will be released till the end of 2014 or earlier or....later?

haha now, the more relevant question is, is there any chance of seeing it released within the next two months? I am launching in September and need to know whether to spend time styling the current EasyBlog, or whether I will have something fresh to work with before Sept. A vague answer is good enough, I understand that you have no actual ETA yet.

(Sorry for the ETA question, I hate them myself, but due to the lack of EB roadmap and an impending site launch, I just want to plan)

Hello a sidequestion about EB4. Will it have more features in terms of Multi-Language? I plan to have at least 3 languages in my project with either Falang or Laternfish or Josetta (still working on that), will EB4 support some of them so we can fully have a multi-language experience?

Thank you in advance, great news!

Unfortunately we are not able to fit in support for either of these 3rd party translation extensions. Perhaps in the future. Our hands are really full right now.

I suspect a Christmas theme but you could still hold out for Christmas in July... If screenshots and video include references to iphone7 then we are doomed...
