What is the 'News' App in Groups

Hi there,

Can you please explain what is the purpose of the 'news' app in groups? I understand that it is not a place for general posts. Is it some kind of an announcement system? If so, who can post? (Admin only?)

Yep, that's correct. It's a place for group admins to post group announcements. In 1.3 we are planning to add possibility for apps to add their own "counter" so user's know when there are new items

An app counter, I'm already liking the sound of this. My school (college) uses something that has a counter for new grades and such, not just "activity".

Yep This allows 3rd party apps to render a counter if there are new items that should be made aware to the user.
