I am really sorry for the delay of this reply as it is a weekend for us here. Modules are actually small blocks which appears on your Joomla site. For instance, the login block that is provided by Joomla is a module. Plugin on the other hands are things that doesn't appear on the site but performs specific tasks which modifies the output of the site.
