Hi guys,

I'm trying to add video links from YouTube to the site but no video is displaying?
Hey Jason,

For some reasons, it looks like your server is preventing outgoing connection. I made a debug.php file at http://milnesford.fundndrive.com/debug.php and it seems like any url that I tried to connect to doesn't work (Even stackideas.com)

Hi Mark,

OK, I checked with my hosting company. They can't seem to find any reason why my server would block an outgoing connection. Can you point me in any direction that would help me resolve this? Videos worked at one point in time, I'm just not sure what I could have done to make them stop working all of a sudden?

Thanks

Hey Jason,

It could be due to firewalls / restrictions but to be honest I am unsure but their best bet is to check out the debug.php file which I have created for them to review.

It is a very simple php code to connect to an external site to get the contents of the site. It is located under public_html/milnesford/debug.php

Hi Mark,

Thank you. I have been going back and forth with my hosting company (inmotionhosting.com) for more than a week, and they have been unable to resolve this issue for me.

I am running the ES application on a VPS server, so its not in a shared environment running on the cheapest hosting I can buy. I have an install located at http://iconndigital.com/development/soundbox I am using a Joomlart template and YouTube vids play fine through the template, just not the ES App?

Please advise

Hey Jason,

Adding youtube videos is just about embedding the html codes on the page and it's very different to what EasySocial is trying to do. When a user shares a Youtube link, EasySocial would need to query Youtube's API service to get the info and embed codes of the video.

We can't require user to copy embed codes to share a video as that would be too much for them to handle.

By the way, since you mentioned that you own the server, perhaps if you could provide us with the root access and we'll try to help you to check this out?

Hi Mark,

I understand. Please review my site. I have installed a new application with a Joomart template (Mood) Some videos are working great, others I just tried to embed don't at all and are doing the same thing?

Please check it out and let me know what you think! Thanks.

Hey Jason,

Hm, when you embed a video code using the embed codes provided by Youtube, your server isn't connecting to youtube. It's merely just rendering the html codes on the page to play videos from Youtube. The problem only occurs when a script on your site tries to connect to an external site out of your site.

By the way, I don't know which videos are you referring to here but I am guessing that you are referring to the video at http://fundndrive.com/8-musixmood/38-beauty-and-a-beat-ft-nicki-minaj-2 ?

The only way to fix this is to check on the server to see if there are any firewalls in place that restricts outgoing connections with the scripts. Since you have a vps, if you can provide us with the root access, we'll try to help you to check on this

Hey Jason,

I tried to SSH to the server, but I seem to be having troubles connecting to it,

~$ ssh root@iconndigital.com
ssh: connect to host iconndigital.com port 22: Operation timed out
~$

By the way, the ftp access which you originally provided also doesn't seem to work Can you please advise?

Hi Mark,

My apologies, I just spoke to the hosting company and have the correct logins necessary for you to connect via SSH. I submitted them via site details.

Thank you

Hi Mark,

I had the wrong username.... again. My apologies. I can access SSH using Putty with the credentials I gave you. I added my server IP as well. Not sure why it is timing out? But FTP should work fine now.

Hey Jason,

Hm, is this the correct port? http://take.ms/LzEIr . Is there some sort of firewall that could be preventing me from connecting to SSH?

Okay, after fiddling with this and also looking at your error logs, it seems like this is the problem,

This is probably why all the curl_xxx isn't working on the site. Could you get inmotion to review this?

Don't worry about it Jason, I am also very curious as to why it wasn't working plus Inmotion is one of our partners as well and they should be able to answer queries from our customers too :x

Hi Mark,

Okay, after several calls to inmotion hosting, they are asking me to ask you which port on firewall you would like unblocked? Curl is enabled on the site, so thats not preventing outgoing connection, has to be a firewall issue of some sort.

What I don't undersatand is why other videos are playing fine, but the one I enbed doesn't doesn't? I also tried updating through backend, but it would not. It said outgoing connection is blocked?

If you could let me know what specifically you would like inmotion hosting to do, they said they would do it.

Thanks man! Hopefully were close to a solution!

Hey Jason,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply as it is a weekend for us here. Embedding video is completely different than crawling a URL on the server. When you embed a video, all you are doing is placing HTML codes on your web page and everything else is rendered on the target site (youtube.com or vimeo.com for instance)

Crawling the site on the other hand, will try to make a connection to the target url (imagine it as opening a browser and typing the url in the address bar to get the contents of the page) although it isn't literally opening a web browser.

The best way to describe this problem to inmotion is the following error messages. You need to let them know that they need to allow curl_ functions in the php.ini of the server
