Hi!
My site builded with jomsocial.
I checked your EasySocial demo - and I like it.
But I can't see videos in your demo...
There is no videos???

In that case, how it possible to migrate from jomsocial to easysocial? My site have thousands videos...
This isn't available yet.

You can see the current Roadmap for Easysocial here: http://stackideas.com/roadmap/easysocial
Video's is planned for Version 1.3 which is supposed to be released within the next month or two.

Ah, It's a pity!
I very like easysocial.
But it seems, I need awaiting newest versions before purchase them.
At first, there is no videos, and secondary, there is no ability to block users from frontend.

Not sure what you mean by that. You can completely block anyone from anywhere. I'm using Easysocial for an intranet.

I checked EasySocial on Demo site and I didn't seen button like "Ban User" or "Block User" or "Remove User Avatar" like in Jomsocial.
Now on my site with jomsocial I have moderators (admins) - they can ban users on frontent.

Hello romagromov,

Yep, we don't have "ban" users or "block" users yet but this will be coming in later EasySocial is only 8 months old now, and JomSocial has been around for 9 years?

Hey Mark!
I think that EasySocial is much better than Jomsocial.
But it don't have some options, which stops me to purchase it.
The main thing - is video galleries.
My site on jomsocial have very much videos, so after migrating I will lose them...
Also, very important option - ban users.

The best thing then for you is to wait for ES 1.3. Keep in mind there has been perks of coming in early to the ES community. For example if I joined right now instead of last December, there is a very good chance the state list would not have made it on the roadmap for ES 1.3. There are other benefits too. So really it depends on your patience and careful observations on whether or not it's better to join now or in a month or two.

ES 1.3 is going to be so cool.

Hey guys,

Firstly, I sincerely apologize for that as we did indeed try our best to fit in the videos but as we were progressing, we felt that adding videos will only prolong the release cycle to even further because we are pretty shorthanded considering that we are working both on EasyBlog N5XT and EasySocial 1.3 concurrently.

To be honest, this was due to my bad planning as I thought we could concurrently work on both extensions at the same pace that we did for EasySocial 1.2 but it turns out that it uses more resources because both extensions requires quite a substantial amount of work.

I totally understand the frustrations that you have but let us make it up to you once we are done with EasySocial 1.3 okay?

While I love the idea of ES having videos soon, I think it was a wise decision on Mark's part to have it wait for ES 1.4. Trust me, I am eager to see it but the release cycle shouldn't be compromised over it. I admit that when I heard months ago that EB 4 was in the making I was a little worried about it being a bit of a juggling act for the stacked team.

I must say that EasyBlog N5XT looks like a very exciting step for the EB series. So I want to congratulate the stacked team on that. I am eager to see the new editor preview. Say, why did we skip from EB 4 to 5 when currently we are on 3.9? Did 4 get made in the background of the making.

Thanks for the heads up on this Josh. We skipped 4 altogether because there was not much of leftover codes from the 3.x series. Jumping to 5 would make more sense because we practically rewrote everything (no joke) .

Hello Mark,

I'm really curious to know why you guys decided to develop the events first than the videos .. which made the videos be postponed to 1.4. videos were more important since text, photos, and videos make up the foundation of social network.. just wondering

another thing, now i see the roadmap has no dates next to it, how can you help us planning? bunch of us are waiting for the videos to migrate from jomsocial and now it looks like we have no clue when this is going to happen

easyblog 5 looks like it's going to be awesomeeeee btw

Events are more important in my opinion because they create real meetings and interactions between your users. I personally believe a social network is more powerful if it brings people together in person rather than more interactions on the site. It may be less time on your site, but at the same time the usefulness of your site has increased hence making it more of an asset to people's lives making people more encouraged to use it before and after the socials.

By having events I also believe that the name EasySocial will live even more up to it's name by creating socials.

I agree with Josh. Events are more important than Videos. Especially when you run communities that focus on niche markets and want to coordinate meetups and google hangouts etc.

Also, the Events feature is a bigger undertaking form a development perspective. I am not sure what Stackideas specifically has planned for the Videos feature, but I am assuming it would be some type of Directory of shared videos with filters and search? If so, I am guessing that videos that are being shared already now will be implemented in the Video page/directory in future versions? Again, I am just guessing/speculating.

i guess everyone thinks differently which made me take my words back.

i see your points guys but i still believe photos and videos are the basis of all social networks. i don't see many social networks that don't have videos and photos .. but i see many with no events. in 2013/2014 snapchat, kik, instagram and so many social networks has been a success cuz they understood that the basis of social network is sharing stories via text/images and videos. i do understand that we are looking for a niche market but the first thing that will pop up in my users mind is that why can't we upload a video!

but again since i see some users looking for the events first, then i might be wrong.

Regards,

If a picture is worth a thousand words, I suppose a video can be a whole lot more. Regardless to what we believe is the best choice, the stacked team has worked on events for quite some time. So it makes the most sense to publish it first considering that they are quite a ways into the development of events. If videos were partly made but not events I'd go with videos first.

I think the main reason they chose events first is because there was the greatest demand for it from folks. At one point there was talk of not having events which a bunch of folks "panicked". I'm guessing we might see a ES 1.3 beta 1 in a few weeks (this is a guess based on how things are playing out).

I agree with Josh too that Events is more important than Video. For me Video is just a link that are shared in the Community and ES is already capable of sharing Video links. It just so happened that many of the people anticipating for ES Video are Site Admin who fall in love with ES at first glance which I don't blame them to be, since I am madly in-love with it now and they are using JomSocial.

If you think about Video in ES, since StackIdeas is graciously thinking of Customers that are using shared hosting. Video for ES would create another support mess later I guess why? Because most shared hosting companies does not allow ffmpeg and other video compression software unless you are running VPS or Dedicated Server. But that depends on how StackIdeas is going to design ES Video, if ES Video will only allow Video Link management and all videos should be hosted with external service like YouTube or Vimeo, etc. then I guess it's fine. Hosting local video is not an option for ES running in share hosting in my opinion. But... without that customers who uses ES for intranet or those who hosts their video locally is not going to be happy without the support for local hosted video.

Awaiting v1.3.beta... soon!

Agree with you guys favoring importance of events. A recent TechCrunch article talks about Facebook's recent Events design overhaul (article also has interesting take on Zuckerberg's understanding of the value of Apps to the Facebook ecosystem):

While it might seem counter-intuitive, getting people off the computer and out on the town is productive for Facebook [always replace with "your Joomla-based niche social community"]. Events are where you meet friends that strengthen Facebook’s social graph, and take photos [and yes, those videos] to share back, and interact with Businesses you could Like. If Facebook can be the portal to fun IRL experiences, it will win a place in your heart.

And finally, Events help Facebook achieve its mission to connect people, and fights the perception that it actually isolates us. The Events feature has quietly become one of the social network’s most critical over the years. Seems Facebook is finally ready to celebrate it.

I'm assuming there will be support for both local and external videos. External in my opinion is more important. Speed is very important for the user experience when it comes to watching videos. YouTube is the fastest video service that I've seen which is why it's really important that external support is added. The shared hosting part is another important angle to making sure we work for both VPS and shared.

Hey all... Just a note.. I am using an updated extension called Jom Web player pro and it integrated nicely with Easy social as a side module, menu module or right into the ES bottom menu module parameter. Check it out on my site at yappazoo.com. The cost for the pro is $19 on Themeforest and this is the best way to have your members upload videos and add them into the stream by a link from your website.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the heads up on this guys and Josh has actually pretty much summed everything that I need to explain We have thousands of different customers and we cannot please everyone (unfortunately). We just need to listen to the majority of the voices and this is one of the reasons why we don't want feature requests to be posted in the forums. We would prefer that it is voted using the voices section

I will be adding the following Feature Request to EasySocial Voices this weekend.

What Would a Video Series Composer look like and what features would you like to see in a Video Composer?

I have started a Discussion at the link below, to get end user feedback on what people want most in Videos for ES 1.4. This is the start of the discussion below, and you can follow the link to read more and contribute to this discussion.

StackIdeas adds Drag and Drop and Innovation

With our first look at EasyBlog 5, the hard working StackIdeas Team has blown us away with the teaser that shows us end-users the flexible drag and drop capabilities that will make EasyBlog 5 extremely intuitive and easy to use. It is my hope that when you add similar UI features into EasySocial such as the forthcoming very important Video features to EasySocial 1.4. I believe the Si Team will innovate and go way beyond what is offered in competing platforms such as JomSocial and social platforms such as Facebook. Let's face it. The standard boring Videos in Categories feature that is in other social networking tools is nothing new, and most often people don't use Videos that much because they are not engaged to watch the videos for various reasons. I believe that the StackIdeas Team can get real innovative with Videos in EasySocial 1.4. and make Videos real engaging.

I sure hope the StackIdeas Team will add valuable input into this discussion and give us feedback before the new Videos features are implemented in ES 1.4, so that the Video features added to ES 1.4 will go way beyond the standard boring video features UI that we see today. I have confidence that the Si Team will include us in these discussions on what is going into Videos, as many have waited patiently for Videos in ES 1.4.
