Hey there,

I think this is a bug because I tried this on a clean installation as well and it did not work for me. There is a small workaround by using the menu item for video and then select the category but this totally messed up my urls on the clean testing site.
Hey Sabih,

Hm, i think the video url does not respect the "category" based menus because we don't actually have a "category" layout right now. You can't actually create a "category" layout for videos currently

Hey Sabih,

Hm, this "category" layout shouldn't exist for videos and to filter videos by specific category, you should actually use the "All videos" menu item and filter it by category.

Anyway if you want, you can try this hack by uploading it into /components/com_easysocial/views/videos/

Hey Mark,

I understand and your hack works but both menu options do not make the url as it should be. The category is not inside the url when filtering all videos with category nor when using the video category layout.

I hoped for videos/category/video-description but the category is missing and no matter in which category the video is in, the result is videos/video-description.

At least as long as there is a menu link to all videos. If there are only menu links to categories, all video urls are video/category1/video-description, even for videos from category2.

I am not sure if I understand this wrong maybe but I thought menu options 'make' the urls in Joomla.

I was afraid while typing that it might not be understandable at all.

I try to explain it the other way around. Usually the menu at the backend creates the urls of Joomla. In case of EasySocial I make a menu item, select the dashboard from EasySocial, call it Community and Joomla makes a url domain/community leading to the dashboard.

In case of the video categories, this does not work. Creating a menu link to the video category A does not make domain/A.

I will try it to explain it on another way as well.

Let's say we have 2 categories for videos, A and B. We have 2 menu links showing the category layout of each category, A and B.

Now I upload a video called VIDEOC to category A.

The url to that video should be domain/A/VIDEOC. This works, but the moment you upload a video called VIDEOD to category B, the url to that new video will be domain/A/VIDEOD. Though VIDEOD is in category B, the url leads to A.

If I could not explain it yet I will make a new clean installation to show it.

That explains a lot!

At least I do not need to spend more time figuring out what I did wrong. Thanks for solving this riddle for me. I know this is not be very important but for search engines it might be helpful in future releases to have this option.

Hi Sabih,

Thanks for the suggestion! It is a good idea, one that I'm sure the video-intensive clients would want to take advantage of. May I ask you a favor and post it on the EasySocial Voices section? It would be helpful for us to track it
