How can I restrict the viewing-access for videos to certain profile types? Or at least for logged-in users?

I can only find the setting for creation-access for different profile types for certain video categories.

Can you please help?

I want that videos can only be viewed by logged-in users. And I want to restrict certain video categories to be viewed by certain profile types.

Thank you so much,
Mike
Hi Mike,

I am sorry for the delay of this reply.

Regarding the above, currently the video's viewing access can only be controlled using user's privacy settings.
In user privacy edit page, user can specify who can view the video they have created / upload. Please see: https://take.ms/goaSi

Hope this help and have a nice day

Hi Mike,

And I want to restrict certain video categories to be viewed by certain profile types.
Can this be done with custom development?

Regarding the above, this is actually quite tricky. May I know, will this 'profile type restriction' supersede the clusters (Group, Event and Page) videos ? What I mean here is, say a user A who in ProfileType A and created a video for a group A where the video is associated with CategoryA and, in this video categoryA the viewing restriction is set to viewable by ProfileType A.

Now, a userB who registered under profileTypeB are also a member in group A, will this userB able to see the video created by user A?

Also, when the video category that do not configure to restrict with profile types, will these videos the viewing restriction fall back to the video's access?

Please advise.

Hey Sam,

basically, we have a free user type (profile type A) and different paid user types (profile type B-G).

I want profile type A to see only the videos from category A, and profile types B-G to see all the other video categories.

Profile Type A and B-G are also together in one group. I possible I would like the profile-type-video-category access rules to override the group access rules. If this is very complicated, I can also make sure that these mixed groups don't allow for video uploads.

Regarding the above, currently the video's viewing access can only be controlled using user's privacy settings.
In user privacy edit page, user can specify who can view the video they have created / upload. Please see: https://take.ms/goaSi

This is not really helpful because the users can change their privacy settings on their own. Or can I prevent that from happening? I just went through all the profile types and changed the privacy settings accordingly, and also checked the box "Tick the checkbox to reset all user's default privacy under this profile. ( This will also reset previous privacy settings of items belong to the users.)". But then I saw that the users can change this again.

Now I am having a weird issue that profile pages are not visible for public. Even though I've put "Who can view my profile page?" to Everyone

Thanks for your help,
Mike

Hi Mike,

I am sorry for the delay of this reply and thank for your clarification.

>> basically, we have a free user type (profile type A) and different paid user types (profile type B-G).

Regarding the above, what we can propose to you is to create the 'Video Viewing' section in video category edit page to allow your admin to configure who can view the videos on this category. The setting will be similar to 'Video Creation'. E.g. https://take.ms/VyBaT

Also, to add this new viewing access into video category, we will need to modify the core files on EasySocial. This also mean, once we applied the changes on your site, you will no longer able to upgrade your EasySocial to newer version.

If you agree with the above, then we can do this customisation at the rate of USD 640 and we will require approx. 5 working days to work on this custom work.

As for the above, I am sorry but currently there is no setting / restriction to disable user from changing their privacy settings

Now I am having a weird issue that profile pages are not visible for public. Even though I've put "Who can view my profile page?" to Everyone

And for the above, can you create another post so that our support team will look into your issue? Mixing issues in a single thread will make us difficult to track in the future.

Hope this help and have a nice day

I have a few questions:

1) Why won't we be able to update Easy Social then? With the other custom development, we have requested and executed with you guys, we didn't receive this information.

2) How can me make sure, that we are still able to benefit from future Easy Social updates?

3) How do you come up with the price? We have already ordered custom dev from you guys, and we thought we could get a lower price.

3) Will this custom feature also work within the native app? We plan the publish our platform also with the native app in a few months. Maybe Q3/Q4 2021.

4) would it be possible to request custom dev for making it possible to disable the functionality that users change der privacy settings?

Thank you,
Mike

Hi Mike,

I am sorry for the delay of this reply.

1) Why won't we be able to update Easy Social then? With the other custom development, we have requested and executed with you guys, we didn't receive this information.

May I know which other custom work? Are you referring to this one https://stackideas.com/forums/looking-for-developer ? If yes, the custom work that involve in the points / badge assignment did not involve modification to the core files and hence, we did not state that information. However, this video restriction custom work require us to change the EasySocial core files in order to apply the new video viewing restriction.

2) How can me make sure, that we are still able to benefit from future Easy Social updates?

Regarding the above, the only way is to include this customisation as the core features in EasySocial so that we will maintain the changes in future EasySocial release. Will this approach work for you?

3) How do you come up with the price? We have already ordered custom dev from you guys, and we thought we could get a lower price.

The quotation is based on hour rate of USD 80 and we the actual hours we will need for this custom work is 8 hours. For your information, due to our lack of resources, our in-house developer will only work on custom works one to two hours per day due to other commitments on work, hence we will require 5 working days to complete this customisation.

3) Will this custom feature also work within the native app? We plan the publish our platform also with the native app in a few months. Maybe Q3/Q4 2021.

Since this custom work require modification on EasySocial core files, our native app rest api will also benefit from it so to answer your this question, yes, it will work on EasySocial native app as well.

4) would it be possible to request custom dev for making it possible to disable the functionality that users change der privacy settings?

Yes, it's possible to disable user's privacy editing at EasySocial frontend. Please submit another post for above customisation request so that we can track your posts easier in the future.

Hope this help and have a nice day
