Hello!

Upgraded to v3.0.1 and I lost the sidebar modules in the dashboard. Did you guys change the module position name? Seems like you did, in the dashboard theme file I see "es-dashboard-aside" and no modules is using that as a module position. If by any change the position name was changed, maybe the installer can update the modules as well?

Thanks,

Jackson
I noticed the same thing happen, my modules have vanished.. I can't find anything how to correct it. I think it could be because we were forced to update using the wizard rather than the updater in joomla?

Hi guys,

Yes, as we already make the EasySocial much clean and minimalist, we have already convert the sidebar filter to be located at the top section of the dashboard.

Fret not as we did not really close the chance for site admin to place a module on the left section of the dashboard area. You can choose which module that you want to display under position es-dashboard-aside .

If you have any difficulties on module assignment, we would love to help

I think the change has caused some confusion, as on ES 2 the sidebar held both App information and modules, as well as the stream filter.

For example, on the dashboard sidebar, we use:

  • Apps to display who visited my profile (nordmograph), Upcoming events, Online friends, Friend suggestions, following etc. These will also disappear when u upgrade to ES 3.01
  • Modules to display ES menu, Birthdays, ES stats etc

With the sidebar being removed, all of this information disappears, making our site look really weird compared to what we are used to.(LOL we ARE using a test site)

Maybe you need to make users aware that there may be significant visual changes when they update, and their sites may not look or function the way it used to. Don't get me wrong, I'm really happy to be rid of the sidebar, its just thats is a bit of a shock to the system when you look at your site after the update.

Hey Marc,

Thanks for the input on this. This is actually why we label this upgrade as 3.0 instead of 2.3 since it is a major upgrade, it will contain breaking changes.

These app widgets that you are referring to, "Upcoming events, Online friends, Friend suggestions, following etc" has been converted to a module and it's much better to be rendered as a module because you can not only place it in EasySocial, it can be placed anywhere else on your site.

Hi Mark,

I got what you guys are trying to do, the new v3.x layout will be an advantage for mobile.

I am recreating the layout in desktop for our end users who will get confused with this changes by displaying the modules and found out that not all of the module positions were using the same name. For example, in dashboard view the position was renamed to es-dashboard-aside but in the profile view the position is still es-sidebar. Now I have to published 2 EasySocial Sidebar modules for each positions. Is this intentional or should it have same position name?

Thanks,

Jackson

This is intentional to create a different position name to have more control over the component, where es-dashboard-aside will only render in dashboard, whereas es-sidebar been used in profile, event, pages and groups sidebar

Hi Fadhli,

I see, if you put it like that then it makes sense. Just a suggestion, why not go all the way and make it all the way configurable like:

es-sidebar-groups or es-groups-aside
es-sidebar-pages or es-pages-aside
es-sidebar-events or es-events-aside
es-sidebar-profile or es-profile-aside

But just incase, retain es-sidebar for general purpose.

Having a descriptive position name is easier to understand rather than guessing which views have a module position es-sidebar.

Thanks,

Jackson

Hi Jackson,

Thanks for your suggestion, I've consult this with our developer asking why they have intend have the same position name across profile, event, page and group is because firstly in order to get the minimalist layout (where this is why the easysocial sidebar module was included for those) and easy to maintain
