Hi there,

I noticed today that users cannot change their username after they created the account. I hoping that it is just something with the settings as it would make no sense otherwise. If I go to account settings at from my user menu, then edit profile, I see that the area where my user name is, his not clickable.
Hello David,

It has all these while been this way We do not allow users to change their username. We'll see if we can add this to 1.3

Is there any way to get around this in the mean time? It is a bit of a set back that you are 'stuck' with the user name you chose. Why should there be any problem to let people change their user names as they wish?

In the meantime, can users choose to maybe switch and now show their real name as their user name instead?
Can I change it for them at the backend?

Thank you!

If you do add this Mark, please have an option to turn it off. I would not want to allow my users to change their username.

No need to add an option for whether to enable or disable. Check this out:
site/administrator/index.php?option=com_config&view=component&component=com_users
It's configurable in Joomla itself. So the ability to do this should be purely based on the Joomla user configuration.

As for the topic itself, I too would love my users to be able to change their username. After all, Joomla allows it.

Here is how you access it: Joomla Backend >Users > User Manager > Options > Change Login Name

I get it But I don't want them to have 2 account settings areas (one ES and one Joomla). If it is possible to do it on Joomla, it must be very easy to transfer it to ES.

Thanks again Josh!

Hello guys,

This is not something that we'll be adding in 1.2, but we'll most likely add this in 1.3 instead

Thank you for updating Mark. I do hope you will add this to 1.3 as it is a very basic feature that everyone expects to be able to change their own user name. I am not sure why it was not implemented before but I am happy to hear it will be there in 1.3.

Thanks again!

Almost in every case I too would want ES settings in ES. But in this case it should be based on a Joomla configuration that already exists that has "nothing to do with ES".

Anyways, I wouldn't mind a second option appearing in ES. I just figure it's better practice to rely on Joomla's settings when they exist for creating constraints.

@Josh

I guess if your site is completely based on ES, it would make no sense to give a user access to the joomla user settings.

Thanks for the heads up on this David. We are putting a feature freeze tag on 1.2 now and focusing on optimizing 1.2 heavily.

I have this issue also, that my users see the username field but it is blocked so they can not change it. I have checked the Joomla user admin and this is set to allow users to change their name so not sure why ES is blocking them? (I am using ES 1.3.8)

Hello Andrew,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply as it is a weekend for us here. Currently username editing is still not possible.

Eek, that's worrying! My users all had that possibility until yesterday since I was using another "well known social product" but I just switched my system over (amazingly easy and well thought out migrator on your part by the way thanks!) and today I already had one user asking why they could not change profile name.

For me the main issue really is mostly to do with new users that register via a social network, since their user name is autogenerated and most times they want a different one.

For now I can ask them to put in a request for me to manually change it, but it's a shame you don't just follow the Joomla setting. This is a vital correction that needs to be in 1.4 (if not 1.3.9!)

Andrew is right. By installing EasySocial we actually lose that ability. I'm patient about this (I could wait until ES 1.6 if I had to), but I'm sure other folks are eager about this. Even Community Builder allows you to do this.

This seems quite fundamental and you did say it would be in 1.3 a while back. I'd much rather have had this than, say, an RSS feed on the news stream!
