Hey there,

referring to an earlier thread I already had this topic when I thought it would affect my webview app of the site only. But meanwhile I got reports about users trying to register with their desktop pc and not being able to register.

I could not reproduce this error since it is working for me without any problems. But meanwhile I got proves of registration emails of the users they got though they are not registered in my backend.

So the problem is, they register, get an email of that registration but can not login because the account was not created. My last user who got this problem was or is on Windows 10 with Firefox and I got no clue what is going wrong.

I am running a women only community so I do not want to say anything bad about women but in this case they are not very technophile and can not tell me what they do in details.

Is there anything inside the settings that I maybe screwed up or is there any related bug known perhaps? I have spent lots of cash for marketing and now recognizing lots of people could not register maybe means a big loss.

I have put my login details below but please be aware the site is live and running. When making tests please take care!
Hi Sabih,

You can try to add the regex expression below inside your backend > easysocial > profile types > select your profile > custom field > username > basic, http://screencast.com/t/tRphAwvpgfai in order to detect spacing at the beginning or end of username,
^$|^[^\s]+(\s+[^\s]+)*$

You can also add the description for the username to remind user not to add spacing inside the username.

Hope these help.

Hey Sabih,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply as it is a weekend for us here. I just tried to play around with your site and registered using the form at http://zazeni.de/community/login . It's pretty straight forward and my account was created upon clicking on the register button. Once registered, I am logged in immediately and I really don't see how their account has issues.

I guess the main question that you should be asking them is where did they try to register? Was it from the page at http://zazeni.de/community/login ? Or was it from a different page?

Handling usability issues is always tricky as you need to know and reproduce the same steps that the user taken to generate the fault. We had a user once complaining that they can't register on our site and little did I know that she did not understand what "captcha" really is

When I did the screen sharing with her, I realized she did not enter the captcha codes at all on our registration form

I thought absolutely the same for weeks. I had several users not being able to register and they could not explain what they tried to until one just sent me back the email she got from the registration process without the registration being processed. So she got the email 'Welcome .... Here are your login details....' But in the backend the user did not exist.

Then yesterday a colleague of my girlfriend complains abotu the same thing and then my girlfriend told her to make the registration in front of her eyes on my girlfriend's android phone. And she did the registration and passed on the phone. She said that she did the same thing as she did on her desktop pc where it did not work.

I tried everything I could imagine to reproduce this but could not.

Is it possible to see anywhere all sent mails related to registrations?

The only way you could see this is through your mail server

Hey there,

I need to come back to this topic. With a growing community the people complaining about not being able to register are getting more and more. I am totally clueless. I have even started threads in other forums and no one seems to have an idea.

I have users who registered, got a registration mail but they are not registered. They just do not exist though they got an email about registration.

How can they get an email? I thought the email is sent AFTER the user is written into the database but this example shows, that it is not that way.

I could isolate the problem to users of mobile devices. It looks like the registration works on desktop pc but there must be something wrong for mobile devices. Please help me with anything you can imagine what could cause this problem.

Each shot in the dark is a help for me in this case, please. I will try to get in touch with Rockettheme too if they got any clue if this might be a template problem...

Hey Sabih,

If there's no way for me or anyone of us to replicate the problem, we really don't know where to begin. The ideal way is to first identify where the issue is coming from.

Do you have any other registration form on the site?

Okay, I have spent weeks of investigation for this problem already and I think I could solve this finally, or probably..

The problem is that some smartphones have the behaviour of adding a space character when using auto-correction or auto-complete. In this case there is a space behind the username. With a space before or after the username, the user gets an email with his login information, NOT including the space character WITHOUT the user being registered.

So the user tries to login but the account does not exist.

With my missing programming skills I would say that EasySocial accepts this and deletes the space character but Joomla does not and so EasySocial gives the mail but Joomla does not take the user. So the problem is the missing check for space character at the beginning or at the end.

Can we now try to correct this by

a) Giving an error message if user tries to take a username with a space character at the beginning or at the end

or

b) Make it possible to accept the spacer at the beginning or at the end.

I would strongly prefer A...

Hey there,

sorry that I come back to this topic. I found out the same thing happens for the email address input field. I tried to use the same solution but for the email field it did not work. People are still able to put a space character at the beginning or at the end. Do you have a similar solution for the email input field?

Hi Sabih,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply as it weekends for all of us here.

By right email address field will automatically trim out any spacing at both end of the string during registration and editing and it should be no issue when a user are adding extra spacing in the email itself.

I just tried it again and inserting a space character at the end of the email address gives me a registration mail without being registred. I have put my domain into the start post of this thread for you to make a test registration there.

Hi Sabih,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply.

I've applied the fix inside your /media/com_easysocial/apps/fields/user/joomla_email/joomla_email.php and it should be working fine now even if the user are entering some spacing in their email. Please have a look.

Thank you very much Ezrul. I am happy that it is working now and hopefully no one will ever complain about not being able to register again.
