FYI I'm just asking a question and not requesting any work be done. I want to know how links in comments should behave.

Going by my Facebook experience (albeit limited) I know that when I enter links into comments they magically expand into the appropriate container (i.e. a YouTube video link in a comment and you see the Youtube Video in the comment). Can I enter a link into a comment and have it work like "Share a link"?

In ES I enter a YouTube video in a post when selecting "Share a link". I guess I would like to have the Facebook-like support in comments where I could either click "Share a link" or enter a URL and have it magically supported meaning it becomes a YouTube video rather than the link text.

Is this a feature request or would this somehow be supported now (i.e. user error)?
Hello Eileen,

Ah, unfortunately this wouldn't be possible right now. The reason that we do not process every hyperlink on the site is because processing each of these urls would take up bandwidth of your site because the script will need to crawl the target site. I could imagine that when some users type a link, and if it tries to crawl the URL, it could be a nightmare for your server.

Hence, we only made it possible with the "URL share" in the story form since the user need to explicitly select the URL tab if they plan to share a URL.
