Hi Support

I know that you guys are recommending upgrading to EB 5 on a test site.
Seeing as how I have a second version of my Site that I have been keeping for a Joomla update I thought I would try the upgrade on this test version.

http://upgrade.finalbug.net/administrator/index.php

Yes I ran into a problem and I suspect that it is related to this issue here that I see when I have error reporting switched on:

Strict Standards: Declaration of JCacheControllerPage::store() should be compatible with JCacheController::store($data, $id, $group = NULL) in /home/finalbug/public_html/upgrade/libraries/joomla/cache/controller/page.php on line 199

What I did:

got Site ground to do the following for me:

ask your web hosting provide to update the following to:
1) memory_limit to 256M
2) upload_max_filesize to 64M
3) post_max_size to 64M

Which they did.

Did main Akeeba back up of my back up site and tried installing the installer via the extensions manager.

Akeeba back up kicked in and then it looked as if the upgrade was happening.

Maybe I should have switched this off as I have had problems with it over and over again.

Then it looked as if Joomla was updating and I was brought back to the Joomla Extensions manager page.

There was neither a confirmation or denial that this worked.

When I went to the EB component in the back end it looked very much like the old component.

Now when I try to log back into the back end I get a blank page.

Good news is that I have error reporting switched on.

You probably know that I had some IP issues recently.

Can you PLEASEEEEEEE do the following.

Give me an IP if you can not get in?

Find out what the problem is on the upgrade site.
Upgrade and check that things work.
Check the live site (should be pretty much the same) make sure that this problem is not there.
And do the upgrade on the live site.

http://finalbug.net/administrator/

Passwords etc should be the same.

I know this is asking a lot but…
You guys know that I have been very patient and I would like to get this fixed sooner rather than later :-)
I am anxious to avoid more IP pain…

Siteground do daily back ups and you are welcome to hit that Back up now button in Akeeba Pro.

thanks in advance

Paul

ps front end of test site is there:

http://upgrade.finalbug.net/administrator/index.php

pps I have enclosed FTP details below

As always let me know if you need anything
Hi Paul,

I already help you upgraded on your live site -> http://finalbug.net/

Please have a check.

I still have to get my head around this.
As my blogs are being driven more and more by video content than photos!

But nothing that is not solvable.

Perhaps you can try create a new test post using the Easyblog - composer (click and drag) the video block in the blog content.

Hi Paul Murray,

I've tried access again, but it still not work.

Can you guide us how to add IP/net allow from your cpanel? Because I'm not familiar with this.

You'll want to access Joomla! Toolkit.

From there, click on the Manage button for the related website. Then open Secure Admin.

You'll then have access to the whitelist modal.

Hi David, thanks for jumping in here again.

hi Arlex

Yes it is pretty much as David described.

Please see some what more detailed screen shots below.

There seems to be two ways to get to the Joomla toolkit.
Step 1 is definitely go to the My account pane where you will either see what is in 1a or 1b.
(Pressing Joomla toolkit. on screen shot 1b takes me to screen shot 2)
Then click on toolkit.
Then manage.
Then Secure admin.

I am wondering as a matter of interest if you can login here:

http://finalbug.net/administrator/

The reason I am wondering this is because if you can log into the live site:

http://finalbug.net/administrator/

but not the non live site

http://upgrade.finalbug.net/administrator/

Maybe that is a clue?

I am assuming that the Joomla toolkit effects both the live and non live site but I could be wrong!

The non live was made as follows:

I copied the folder structure of the live site into a folder called upgrade.
(to the best of my knowledge
Site ground made a copy of the data base of the live site.
And linked this copy with the folder structure in the folder "upgrade

Not sure if this helps or makes things more confusing.
I am not technically glued to my desk but will check my mails every couple of hours...

thanks as always

Hi Paul,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply as it is a weekend for us here.

Yes, exactly what you mentioned at above. I can access http://finalbug.net/administrator/ but I cant access this non-live site http://upgrade.finalbug.net/administrator/

And I already followed your instruction > add the IP/net allow , it still can't work, maybe need to set different way from your non-live site?

Keep us updated then.

Access from IP for main site but not upgrade site

Hi Support

Stackideas can get in here:

http://finalbug.net/administrator/

but not here:

http://upgrade.finalbug.net/administrator/index.php

I can add there IP address with the Joomla toolkit for the live site.

But see no way of adding this getting it to take into effect for the upgrade site.

i.e. they can access the live site but not the upgrade site.

This is the IP address in question.

175.145.128.216

Please advise.

thanks

Hello Paul,

Thank you for contacting our Help Desk.

I noticed that the http://upgrade.finalbug.net/administrator/index.php page has restricted access only for certain IP Addresses. The 175.145.128.216 IP Address was not one of them. I have added allow rule for the IP Address and it should be able to access the admin page without any issues now.

Please proceed and check the result on your end.

If you have further questions or need assistance, do not hesitate to contact us again.

Best Regards,

Elena

Hi David

In my innocence I would have though that this Joomla Toolkit is nothing other than a graphical interface that adds a green light for a specific IP address in the .htaccess file.

And that the Joomla Toolkit can not go so deep.

i.e. Joomla tool can go:

public_html/administrator/.htaccess

but not

public_html/upgrade/administrator/.htaccess

but then I am far from being an expert!

For most things in cPanel, you'd be right. It gives access to some things that you'd othwise need root for. I just haven't figured out yet where the Toolkit writes to.

Hi Paul,

I'm really sorry that delayed of this reply,

Yes, I also learned a lot of this server stuff

I've tried to set `Allow from 110.159.180.97` my current IP address in your /public_html/upgrade/administrator/.htaccess , it seems like not work for me. (Check my screenshot below, am i do correctly?)

If I add this current IP address through this Cpanel > Joomla toolkit > Click Manage button for the related website > Then open Secure Admin, then I can directly access http://finalbug.net/administrator/

Please advise.

IP access for Stackideas Take 04

Here is the latest post from Arlex @ Stackideas:

I know that you guys try to recreate this issue again and again and can not. However I have been working with Stackideas for over 4 years and have found them to be incredibly reliable. I have threads in the Stackideas forum that have 45 replies in them. Most of which relate to IP problems!

Just because you guys can not replicate an issues does not mean that there is not an issue. So I would ask you to investigate this issue again and try and find a solution. If necessary maybe you need to talk with Stackideas directly!!!

I am extremely unhappy with this situation, as I am wasting Siteground time, Stackideas time, other SI forum members time and my time.

I am looking forward to finding a permanent solution for this problem.

best

Paul

ps my open questions for Siteground:

What I still do not understand is the following:

a) Stackideas added their IP address to:

http://upgrade.finalbug.net/administrator/.htacess

And were not able to get in. Why?

b) When Stackideas login to the Siteground cPanel and add their IP address with the Joomla Toolkit where is this added to the Site. Is it added to a file that Stackideas could also access via a FTP program?

c) Is there a hierarchy does adding an IP address in the Joomla Toolkit cary more weight than adding it in the .htaccess file?

thanks

And now the answers to the questions:

Code:
a) Stackideas added their IP address to:

http://upgrade.finalbug.net/administrator/.htacess

And were not able to get in. Why?

I suspect that the problem was caused by the fact that the URLs were not properly set in Softaculous. I believe that the IPs were allowed, but for finalbug.net. Here is the content of the .htaccess file that is present in the /administrator folder of this site:

Code:
deny from all
allow from 110.159.180.97
allow from 88.66.81.9
allow from 175.145.128.216

Code:
b) When Stackideas login to the Siteground cPanel and add their IP address with the Joomla Toolkit where is this added to the Site. Is it added to a file that Stackideas could also access via a FTP program?

This is correct. Whenever Stackideas login to your cPanel and add IP, this IP is included in .htaccess file that is present in the /administrator folder of your Joomla sites. For example - if you use the toolkit to allow IP for upgrade.finalbug.net, this IP will be included in the .htaccess file here:

/home/finalbug/public_html/upgrade/administrator/.htaccess

You can also edit the file directly or rename it temporary, if you want to lift the restriction for some time.

Code:
c) Is there a hierarchy does adding an IP address in the Joomla Toolkit cary more weight than adding it in the .htaccess file?

The tool in cPanel actually adds the IP in the .htaccess file - there should be no difference if you add the IP in cPanel or if you edit the file directly.

Best Regards,

Dimitar

******************************************************************

I suspect that there were at least two things that went wrong.

The Joomla tool kit was set up wrong.
and as they say in the answer above:

I suspect that the problem was caused by the fact that the URLs were not properly set in Softaculous. I believe that the IPs were allowed, but for finalbug.net.

One way or the other please try again :-)

thanks again

Paul

ps my original request:

Can you PLEASEEEEEEE do the following.

Upgrade and check that things work.

Hi Arlex

It looks great to me.
Sure there are minor issues.
eg the images are not always being pulled into the blog list view.
I think I know what is going on there:

Take for eg:
Going Mustang Without a Data Wrangler!
It is using the old EasyBlog "Blog Image" and that works fine.

Take for eg:
FCPX 10.2 : Part 3 of 3
It was using the first image from the post and no longer shows in EB5

You can compare by going here:

http://finalbug.net/blog
and
http://upgrade.finalbug.net/blog

Just look for the top two articles in live/upgrade sire and oyu will see what I mean.

This is not a deal breaker.
i.e. if I have to live with this I will

If you have a tip for how to fix this great.

more to follow very shortly

Hi Paul Murray,

Sorry for late reply to this,

Yes, In EasyBlog 5, our main goal is to assist you site owners by generating quality content and images and by doing that, we rely on post covers (called blog image in 3.9), in order to display the image on blog front listing page, you have to use post cover for now.

When you're ready I will help you upgrade your Easyblog 3.9 to 5.x in your live site.
