Hello,

I've been trying for hours to upgrade to 1.4.2, and the installation just hangs in step 4 (Installation)..."Downloading Installation Files"...I've let it run for more than half an hour....twice....nothing......

When I installed the full package (the previous version) I was done in less than 10 minutes.

Is this release not yet stable? What's going on?

Help please....
Hi Jan,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply. I just tried to update my older version of easysocial to latest version using the updater and it seems like the installation process is went smoothly without any issue. Perhaps you have hitting some sort of timeout issue during the download phase of easysocial components on your site hence the installation failed.

However I've checked your site and it seems like you have successfully updated your easysocial to version 1.4.2. May I know if there are any issue persist on your site currently?

Hello,

I have a dev and a staging environment, the dev environment is where I have the problem. I have 2 different easysocial installations in 2 different directories, both currently 1.4.1, and both fail. You checked staging, but dev is where the problem is at. I just tried it again, and again the same story...it hangs and nothing happens.

What is the problem?

Hey Jan,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply as it is actually a public day off for us here. Can you please provide us with the access to the dev site to check on this?

We can't really tell what the issue is without experiencing it ourselves

Hi Mark,

1) Is there no way to PM you my credentials in the future? I really don't like putting this data on a forum.

OK, you can use these creds for DEV:

http://boarboar.com/JSES/administrator/

admin@boarboar.com
hola2veces22

2) As much as I would appreciate you fixing the issue, I would appreciate it 1,000 more if you explain to me what the problem is so I can fix it myself in the future and don't have to bother you with these "simple" requests....(that have set me back 2 days now)...

Very eager to hear what the issue is, I really need to continue development !!

Thanks
Jan

Hey Jan,

The script is hitting this error when it's trying to download the main files from our server http://stackideas.com

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN">
<html><head>
<title>504 Gateway Time-out</title>
</head><body>
<h1>Gateway Time-out</h1>
<p>The gateway did not receive a timely response
from the upstream server or application.</p>
</body></html>

Perhaps there are some firewall / proxy which prevents the installer from downloading from external sites?

So the hosting provider (Siteground) says :
".....
Hello,

I have checked the case in details and noticed that your application requires too long time to execute the request and reaches the shared server timeout limits.

This can be told from the following error in the error log:

[Wed Oct 14 12:21:07 2015] [warn] [client 83.84.211.178] Timeout waiting for output from CGI script /home/boarboar/public_html/administrator/index.php, referer: http://boarboar.com/administrator/index.php
[Wed Oct 14 12:21:07 2015] [error] [client 83.84.211.178] Script timed out before returning headers: index.php, referer: http://boarboar.com/administrator/index.php

In order to assist you I have placed the following rule in your public_html/.htaccess file:
Code:

<IfModule mod_dtimeout.c>
<Files ~ ".php">
SetEnvIf Request_URI "index" DynamicTimeout=300
</Files>
</IfModule>

This way the timeout limit for your account will be increased to 300s....

...."

I am trying right now....and nothing...it still hangs????

I then changed it to:

DynamicTimeout=900

And nothing, still hangs....

Then to:

DynamicTimeout=9000

and nothing....

What is going on here? I've trying to upgrade for 3 days now!?

Can you explain what the problem is please? This is very very very frustrating......

Mark, I still get the same message when I go to Components in Joomla:

You are running on an older version of EasySocial.
Installed version: 1.4.1 Latest version: 1.4.2

Hi Mark, I logged out completely and checked it again and it says it has been upgraded as you stated. Thanks for this.

The question is....next upgrade, will I have to go through this again? What was the problem?

I would really like to be able to do this myself.

Hi Jan,

I believe the issue is due to the timeout issue where your site is trying to download the installer from our server hence returning the error. Perhaps if the issue is persisting on your live site you can try to add the htaccess rule given by your webhosting provider and then try to install it again.
