Hi!
I've just finished migrating an easyblog from Joomla 2.5 to latest joomla. I haven't made my new blog live yet but I'm wondering how the facebook like button works. How do I get the like count back from previous version? Do I need to use the same facebook app id and do the links have to be the same? I've re-arranged on my new site so the links to the posts won't be the same. I'd be very grateful for some help, I don't want my bloggers to loose their hard earned facebook likes.

Best regards,
Nina
Hey Nina,

Are there any differences in the url of the page compared to your current site? If you are working on a staging site, it is fine because as long as the URLs will eventually be the same, the counters would be reinstated back.

Facebook identifies the counter with the url of the page. If the url is different, then the count would not be carried over.

I was going to change the sef alias of the blog. An example:

Old url: https://www.website.com/blog/entry/

New url: https://www.website.com/myblog/entry/

So if I understand you correctly I have to change the sef alias back to "blog" to keep the facebook likes?

Yes, you would need to retain it as /blog/ instead of changing it to /myblog/ . If you do change it to /myblog/, your facebook counter would be lost.

What errors are you hitting when you try to update?
