Yes I had to restore to a backup I made before the EasyBlog update because the update broke the blog section of site. This actually happens pretty often for me with EB updates. So I'm now back to old EB version which works ok.

This last time the EB updater prompted me to install your new downloader, which I did, but site broke. What is the best way for me to update to the latest version of EB without breaking site and without losing styling and functionality?

Thanks,
Daniel

Hi there,

It should not broke your layout as it should be no problems. It must be because of one of your plugin got conflict with EasyBlog latest version or maybe your site got cache and make the layout broken. It would be best if you can provide us with your backend and FTP access for further check on this issues.

Please advice.

Yes maybe there's a plugin conflict because updating EB should not be this difficult every time. I actually really like EB but I dread these updates.

I enabled your admin login and FTP details. I don't currently have a staging site set up for testing, but can you update and test in such a way as to not break the site? If so, please go ahead with update, and let me know what I can do to help.

Thanks,
Daniel

I already help you updated latest version of Easyblog on your site, it seems like there got 2 thing conflict :

1. JCH optimize plugin
>> I've temporary disabled this plugin, then after upgraded to latest version Easyblog, I already help you enabled back, so it can re-compress those newest CSS/JS on the page

2. CDN server
>> I already temporary remove this CDN URL "d13wv0uuz2t96k.cloudfront.net" what you set from backend, is because new CSS/JS haven't cached from your CDN server, that is why all styling broken on your site.

Can you check and see is it work fine now? if yes, you have to clear your CDN cache then start let it start re-cache back, then you only set back your CDN URL from Easyblog setting.

Thank you for updating EB Arlex! I will work to fully understand what caused this so we can avoid issue in the future. Also:

1. How do I truncate intro text in Featured Sliders (screenshot att.)? I already set Max Content to 200 characters in [Views >> Frontpage Layout >> Featured] but it didn't help.

2. Please explain what you mean by "you have to clear your CDN cache then start let it start re-cache back, then you only set back your CDN URL from Easyblog setting." Where do I do this?

Thanks,
Daniel

1. How do I truncate intro text in Featured Sliders (screenshot att.)? I already set Max Content to 200 characters in [Views >> Frontpage Layout >> Featured] but it didn't help.

I've checked in your site, it seems like your existing blogs got contain those readmore tag, so it will populate those content before the readmore tag on the feature slider, so it will not respect what you set that Max content character from backend setting.

I've modify this one of the Easyblog core file from your site then override into your current template /public_html/templates/rt_audacity/html/com_easyblog/blogs/latest/featured.php , it should truncate the content correctly now.

2. Please explain what you mean by "you have to clear your CDN cache then start let it start re-cache back, then you only set back your CDN URL from Easyblog setting." Where do I do this?

To be honestly, I am not really familiar with the CDN thing, but based on what our customer told us, your CDN server should have 1 "Purge" cache button, what you need to do is click that purge cache button from your CDN server, once you done it, you can try insert back your CDN domain into Easyblog setting.

I just tried to put the CDN url back in EasyBlog backend, which broke everything, again. Now I can't remove the CDN url because I can't access the EB settings in backend. Please remove this CDN URL for me asap. Thanks! -daniel

I already help you removed that CDN URL from backend.

Perhaps you can double check on your CDN server whether got cached these Easyblog Javascript and stylesheet file yet?

Thanks Arlex! I'm clearly having trouble with the "purge" in CDN.

I know you're not a CDN guy, but do you think it may fix the issue if I delete all existing EB folders and files in CDN (com_easyblog/assets... /classes... /themes... /etc.) then just manually upload the new EB files and folders (including the 4 you mentioned) from cPanel to CDN?

Best,
Daniel

You're welcome.

First i thought that CDN will automatically cache your site Javascript and css stylesheet file when it crawl on your site.

If previously you also manually upload those Easyblog folders into your CDN server, i think you can do the same step upload those folder/files into your CDN server.

Once you have done, you can manually access these following on your browser and see is it can accessible.

http://d13wv0uuz2t96k.cloudfront.net/administrator/components/com_easyblog/themes/default/styles/style-5.1.8.min.css
http://d13wv0uuz2t96k.cloudfront.net/media/com_easyblog/scripts/admin-5.1.8-basic.min.js
http://d13wv0uuz2t96k.cloudfront.net/components/com_easyblog/themes/wireframe/styles/style-5.1.8.min.css
http://d13wv0uuz2t96k.cloudfront.net/media/com_easyblog/scripts/site-5.1.8-basic.min.js

If can, mean all the JS/CSS will render from your CDN server instead of your local server.
