Hello,

I want to upgrade easysocial from version 1.4.5 to 1.4.6.
I have easysocial with core changes in several files (i had to do it).
I reviewed changlog and found out, that modified files do not interfere with my changes.
I would install upgrade files using your installer, but i'm afraid, that your installer will overwrite all the easysocial files (not onle ones which are added or modified).

So, the question is - am i safe to start upgrade installation?
If not - what is the best way to upgrade software in my case?

Tomas
Hey Tomas,

I strongly suggest that you take a backup of your changes first before proceeding with the upgrade This way even if the files are overwritten, you could do a comparison

It's never a good idea to hack core files. Do it via template overrides

Hi Mark!

Thanks for replying so quickly! I'm really surprised
I think i'll go the comparison way, which you recommended. So - i will select it as accepted answer.

Regarding hacking core files - i can not do it via template overrides.
I know that it is not a good idea (maintaining hacks over a year)

Basicly - i extended points and badges system so that users can receive badges according to the amount of points they gain. It is much more useful for me as frequency. In my website - people are solving tasks, quizes, receive points and gain badges according the points they receive. Frequency can be used as well. I have attached a picture to show how it looks like in backend.

Why i'm writing this - maybe you could include this kind of functionality? It would greatly extend applications of points and badges system for all of your users. I would provide all the source code and explanations (i have documented the changes in files for myself), just save me from this curse of maintaining the hacks

I know that you have your own plans regarding development of easysocial, just some quick thoughts ;-)

Have a nice weekend,
Tomas
