I want to update the storage path names ( see hidden notes) for article images and user media if I change these in Settings > Media > General will I have to add documents etc all over again or will site continue to work without making other changes???

You have to re-added it again on your new path in order to make sure it working.

If I change the current directory name to what I want and then update the settings ineb5 to match would I still need to re-add it?

You still need to re-add them into the entry. When you save the blog post, you are not saving the "data" that is associated with the blog post. You are saving the entire contents including the html codes.

There is no way to store "variables" in your blog post and replace it later on when displayed. Furthermore, by having variables, you slow down the entire displaying process.

So change the storage path for article images from: images/benton_articles/ to images/school_articles/ and also change the directory images/images/benton_articles/ to images/images/school_articles/

I just want to remove the word benton from the path and replace it with something else, and not have to re-add images and documents... Possible???
