I have a user who has turned on "Site Wide Subscription" from his subscriptions page.

When he browses to a category, he still sees "Subscribe by Email"

His question to me, which I couldn't answer is, does site-wide subscription sign me up to all posts in all categories? If so, why does it still tell me to subscribe when I visit those categories?

Can you help me understand it please!
Hey there,

The system will still render the "Subscribe via email" under each of the category on the site even though the user has subscribed the site-wide subscription already.

Currently the system only detect if the user subscribed to that particular category, then it will only show "Unsubscribe" this keyword on this single category page.

In other word, when the user has subscribed site-wide subscription already, he/she will get notified whoever published a new discussion, reply or comment under different category on the site.

Thanks Irwin. It's confusing my users a little - could I suggest consideration for something like:

When viewing an individual category instead of it saying just "Subscribe / Unsubcribe" it says...

"Subscribe (or unsubscribe) | Site-wide ACTIVE (or inactive)"

The subscribe / unsubscribe would have the current behaviour - The site-wide active / inactive could link through to the subscriptions page....

This would make it a lot clearer and show the power to the users who might not be aware of site-wide subscriptions.

Whilst a big user improvement this is unlikely to be a significant issue enough to get widely voted on, so hope you can just consider it for inclusion on the basis of my post here

Hi Irwin, as I mentioned, it's not a big enough deal for people to vote on it - I was hoping though StackIdeas Team could see the value in it from the user experience based on this post alone.

...Ah but I see it's easy to switch the category, so I have done as suggested.

My point though is lack of votes from the community doesn't stop this from being a user experience improvement
