Hi Guys,

I am getting an 'email not valid' error even when my email is valid on mini registration page(please see the attachment). The registration does work even with the error, so the error shouldn't be there. It does go away after a minute or so if you wait, but I suspect my users aren't going to like seeing that especially when they've entered a valid email.

Is there a way to fix this or turn off email validation in Back-end or in the source code? If so, how would I go about doing that?

Thanks so much,

Suman
Hi,

Could you give it a try by disabling all the Add Ons and see if the issue persist?

Regardless, does any email address with "digit" causes this error on your end?

Hello Suman,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply as it is a weekend for us here. Is it possible for you to provide us with the back end and FTP access to your site to check on this issue?

Hi Mark,

No worries. Thanks for coming back to me.

Yes I can provide you with access. Where can I send the username and password details for access?

Hello Suman,

You may actually include it in the form below under the "Site Details" tab

Hello Suman,

I have just tried typing a gmail address and it doesn't seem to generate any errors http://screencast.com/t/GYg8EhYWc9 . What is the exact email address were you typing there?

Hi Mark,

Thank you for coming back to me. I have added the email I used to the Optional Information area in site details.

I have tried it again, and now the error seems to have stopped. Seems to happen at random.

If it happens again, I will send you the screenshot.

Sorry about that.

Thank you for helping me thus far. I really appreciate it.

Hello Suman,

Hm, this is really odd because I just tested this and it works fine with your email too I am not really sure how to reproduce this issue. Is there any specific methods that you were able to reproduce this?

Hi Mark,

The strange thing is that I can also no longer replicate it on my side. I used the normal log-in method. It happened with the default 'registered-user' profile and with a profile type I created (in the profile type section of the Easysocial back-end).
Just some extra information, I'm using:
Joomla! 3.3.3 Stable ,
Apache web server,
PHP Version 5.4.26,
EasySocial v1.2.21;

If it happens again, I'll send through a screenshot. If it doesn't happen again, my apologies for trouble.

Hi Mark,

Just an update on this issue. The email error came up again. I found that it only comes up in Firefox (Chrome and IE are fine), and if I clean the browser history it goes away. I have added the email address I used in the Site Details.

Thanks,

Suman

Hi,

I've tested with Firefox and it seems like this email is currently already registered and hence I am getting "Email already in used" error message instead. I've changed the digit 1 to 2 in the email address that you've provided and it seems to be validating correctly.

I tried accessing your site's backend to temporarily remove the user with the email address that you've provided but it seems like the account that you've previously provided is no longer working. Please advise.

Also, can you try various other email and see if they all work? Or does it only happens particularly to an existing email of a user in your site?

Hi Jason,

I have deleted the email address so if you wish you can try it out again. I have also enabled the account whose details I previously provided so if you wish, you can login with it.

I tried other emails and those ones don't generate the error. Its only the ones with numbers in them.

My theory on it is that it's happening because I re-use email addresses for testing purposes over again (deleting the user accounts from easysocial each time and adding them back in). Firefox's history remembers these and that history causes this strange error. I have found that if I clear Firefox's browsing history and try it again it works just fine, without error.

Hi,

Do you have any extension installed in your Firefox Add Ons?

I still couldn't reproduce the error and I suspect it could be coming from some cache/performance add ons.

Hi Jason,

Yes I do, I've got:
Firebug,
MeasureIt,
Print pages to PDF,
and wordcount;

You're right, it could definitely be one of these.

Hi Jason,

I have disabled all the add-ons and now the error is gone. Problem solved. Thanks so much.

The error used to crop up with emails with numbers in it, and with emails with a full stop in it.(eg. abc.defghi@gmail.com).

Hi,

Hmm I am curious which particular add on is causing it. We will need to further test it on our end to see if we can isolate the problem.

Firebug shouldn't be the problem as we are using them as well.
