Hi, I need your help to correct a German translation error. If I click on a stream to like it it has to be "Dir gefällt das" and not "Du gefällt das" Please let me know where to correct that becuase I couldn't find it ....

Thanks for your support!
hey horst,
the problem is that there's not a complete string "You like this" which then could be translated correctly. it's generated from "you" and then "like this" - perhaps even "you" + "like" + "this" - therefore the translation made for "you" (du) is generally correct but not in this context.

I will check the translations and try to find out if this special "you" string is also used somewhere else - because when we now change this "Du" to "Dir" and then at a different place "Du" will be needed we have the same problem again

but I already informed the stackideas team about the problems with this sort of combined strings and they promised do their best to change these into full strings in near future so that we don't have to deal with these problems anymore

hey horst,
you're welcome

I already did some checks on the current file structure and there is a reserved "you" string especially for the likes: COM_EASYSOCIAL_LIKES_YOU
that's part1 of the good news, part2 is that on transifex this is already correctly available now so with the next translation update from the stackideas team you can grab the new one's directly from your easysocial backend.

however, now we also have some bad news - would be too easy without^^ the reserved string is currently not used at all, so even with the corrected language file it will have no effect. the current "Du" for the likes is coming from this string: COM_EASYSOCIAL_YOU (if you want to modify it) instead of the one I mentioned earlier. but I guess as soon as mark or someone else from the team will read this they'll fix that for the next version

if you have some other questions or probs with german files, no matter which stackideas product, feel free to drop me a line at skype: joomlaplayground

Hi Alex,

If I edit this last mentioned string, is there any other string which will then be changed but shouldn't?

Thanks,

Horst

yeah, unfortunately there are other affected parts, for example the re-post (share) string is using it.
still the best solution will be the upcoming major change where streams are fully translatable at once and not combined from different parts. for example you now have "Du folgst jetzt XX" and "XX folgt Du" -we both know the second one should be "XX folgt Dir" but both "Du" here are coming from the same string in the language file - so one of these is always wrong... I think this problem wasn't on the map as in english everything is "you" so it's no problem there, but as said stackideas is informed and I'm sure this will be fixed soon - hopefully

Hello Horst,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply as it is a weekend for us here. Sorry but not too sure what "news" are you looking at?

Hi Mark,

Please have a look at Alex's posting. In German language there is a differnce between "Du" and e.g. "Dir". You have to differenciate different strings for the English "You" in your software.

Thanks for your support,

Horst
