Hi All! One of my websites that has easyblog was recently hacked. My hosting company offers a service to "un-hack", and when they did, they stated that they found bugs in easyblog c and the database of easyblog trackback was badly spammed.

My question: What is the value of trackback? And does it put my site at risk for getting hacked/spammed? If so, does disabling it put a stop to this happening?

Thank you!

Brett
Hello Brett,

Sorry for the late reply as it's the weekends. Trackback is for users to add the trackback link to their posts to link it to your post. Seems like your trackback is being exploited. You can turn it off in backend -> EasyBlog -> Settings -> Workflow -> General under the Trackback section. Hope this helps.

Thanks!

Are there any other security issues I should know with easyblog?

Hello Brett,

This is not a security issue but it is a feature which is disabled by default. Some users uses Trackbacks on their sites but lately Trackback seems to be unpopular and more and more users are moving away from it. We do have plans to remove this feature in the near future.

By the way, trackbacks are disabled by default when you install EasyBlog.
