I'm having 5 categories in easy discuss, out of which 4 are closed categories (i.e users are not allowed to start a new thread in these categories, they can only post replies)

Now if the toolbar category filter is enabled only those categories which have new post new thread permissions are show, categories without post new threads are not shown)

Is there any setting wherein all categories are shown in the Category filter irrespective of the ACL.

regards
Sunny
hello Sunny

Sorry for late reply to this,
I have tested in my locally, if the category didn't have any discussion post, it will still show out unless that category do not have the permission to let user view it. Is it possible provide us with your Joomla backend and FTP access so we can help you check on this? Perhaps you mention to us which category didn't show out in your end? Please advise.

Hi Arlex,

Yes you are right if the category has 0 posts also it would show in drop down,
but if there is a category which does not give permission to users to post a question, this category is not showing in drop down search filter.
(i.e if a category has a permission "Who can select this category when creating discussion" only for "super Users")

Sorry even i'm on local, but within 10 days i'll move to online server for final ironing out.

Hi Mohd,

To Explain in details:

Suppose I have 3 categories:

Category 1 : permissions assigned --> "Who can select this category when creating discussion" only for "super Users"
Category2: permission assigned -->"Who can select this category when creating discussion" only for "super Users"
Category3: permission assigned -->"Who can select this category when creating discussion" only for "super Users, Regsitered, Authors"

now in the search bar category drop down only Category 3 is shown, i want to show all three categories.

I'm trying to explain with the attached image as well.

regards

Hi Arlex,

I've ported the site onto a demo server and submitted supersuser details.

If you login by demo/demo (Normal User) then you will see the issue as explained in the above thread.

Two more issues i've noticed,
1) if i select the category in the drop down and search for "ICI" is shows results from another category as well. Ideally if the user selects a particular category and enters some text in "Looking for something", results should be restricted to the selected category only.

2) If i post a reply to a thread and click the submit button, nothing happens, but after that if we refresh the page the reply entered is shown. in firebug the error is as :
Error: TypeError: controller is undefined

#2. if i select the category in the drop down and search for "ICI" is shows results from another category as well. Ideally if the user selects a particular category and enters some text in "Looking for something", results should be restricted to the selected category only.
>> I have replaced this file in your test site -> JoomlaFolder\components\com_easydiscuss\models\search.php

Hi Arlex,
#1. Categories toolbar issues.
>> It seems like all the categories is shown in your discussion frontpage layout, check my screenshot : http://screen.stackideas.com/2014-11-10_1736.png

You see all categories because you have logged in as Superuser, try login in as demo/demo, then only 1 category would be shown in drop down. (All Categories have reply rights to all, and only one category "Greviences & Complaints" has create new thread right.)

>> It seems like your current template causing the issues, when i change to Joomla default template, then everything is working fine.

Can you please point out what is causing this so that i can take it up with template developer.

I have replaced this file in your test site -> JoomlaFolder\components\com_easydiscuss\models\search.php
>> Can you give it a try and see how it goes?

No not working yet, now if you search for "ici" it says 27 results found. & for test it gives "47 results found based on the keyword test." there are only few threads.
Further It overlooks the selected category in the drop down while searching i.e if you select Stock Discussions in drop down & then search for ICIC, it would give results from Grievances and Complaints category.

hello Sunny,

Sorry for late reply to this,
Regarding with your category issues :
>> If you only assign SuperUser user group select the category, which mean that other users also do not have the permission to select those category when trying to select category and search it. check my first screenshot below. (so the demo user only see this category)

Regarding with your second/third issues :
>> Can you provide us with your test site FTP access so that we can check on this?
>> May i know did you have do some customization in your Easydiscuss? Please advise.

Regarding with your reply issues :
>> It seems like that was come from your customization file, I have temporary rename the post.php to post.php_bak
JoomlaFolder/templates/stockadda/html/com_easydiscuss/post.php_bak
It work fine now.
