Too many users in friend suggestions

Currently, I'm optimizing the site performance and found this page » Friends » (User) My Friends Layout giving way too many friend suggestions.

For example. in a large setup with 100k users, I get 13k friend suggestions the page loading takes longer to load.

For new users and has only a few friend suggestions, the page load faster.

I'll think it makes sense to limit the suggestion to 100 or less.

That counter should only give the user a rough idea of how many suggestions there are but on the listing itself, it does not list all 13k friends and it shouldn't be slow at all.

How slow does it take to render the suggestions? It should only render 10 - 20 users depending on your pagination settings.

Hello,

Hm, this is odd as it shouldn't take that long. Is it possible for you to provide us with the access to the staging site to look into this? I believe there is a possibility that one of the query there could cause some hiccups and since you already have that dataset on the staging site, we could take a look and profile the queries there.
