I have just installed Easy Social and I have one problem. All the users who were already in Joomla have transferred over and can log in without error.

However, if I add a new user they cannot login and get the "Too Many Redirects" error:

This webpage has a redirect loop
The webpage at http://heartworksoc.com/heartworkers/profile has resulted in too many redirects. Clearing your cookies for this site or allowing third-party cookies may fix the problem. If not, it is possibly a server configuration issue and not a problem with your computer.
Here are some suggestions:
Reload this webpage later.
Learn more about this problem.
Error 310 (net::ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS): There were too many redirects.

Any ideas?
Hello Ian,

After testing this for several hours, it seems like the problem occurs with the plugin "System - Force Password Change" . It is conflicting with EasySocial's system plugin.

What the system plugin for EasySocial does is to redirect users that accesses any com_users -> com_easysocial . However, this plugin seems to be redirecting the user all the time to com_users.

In other words, this is how it's being erratic

1. Force Change password -> redirects to index.php?option=com_users&view=profile
2. EasySocial system plugin -> redirects to index.php?option=com_easysocial&view=profile

So the cycle keeps going on and on

Hello Ian,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply as it is a weekend for us here. It's most likely that all your menu items that link to EasySocial is set to "Registered Only". Hence, the "redirection" fiasco.

Here's what is actually happening behind the scenes:

1. User tries to login by clicking on the login link
2. Joomla detects that the menu that you are trying to access is restricted. Redirects you to the com_users&view=login page.
3. EasySocial system plugin is enabled and is redirecting all access to com_users&view=login to com_easysocial&view=login . However, on this step, because all your menus for EasySocial is set to "Registered", Joomla will now redirect to the login page again causing this viscous cycle.

Hi Mark,

I certainly wasn't expecting a reply over the weekend so kudos to you for doing that. Easy Social looks like it will be a fabulous tool to drive our charitable community, so I am looking forward to resolving this.

I took a look and I only have one menu so far, which is the default Community menu, although I renamed it to be more site specific That is set to Public. I have not set up any other menus for easy social. Also, the original users can log in without error, and only the new registrations after installing easy social are affected?

The interesting part is that you can see that the user is logged into Joomla, but they do not get logged into easy social. I then have to go to the Joomla control panel to disconnect them, so this supports your theory.

Any ideas what I should do next to get them logged in correctly?

Thanks

Ian

Hello Ian,

Thanks for getting back to me on this Ian. Hm, could you provide us with the affected user login / password and also the back end as well as the FTP access to the site? I am quite curious to find out what went wrong

Hi Mark,

Absolutely. What is the easiest way to get the details to you securely? Should I use the site details tab below the reply box?

Hi Mark,

Sorry for the delay. Had to go to the paying job as I can only do the charity work on the weekend.

I am not sure why the FTP account isn't working so I set up new one for you. (See Site Details).

Thanks for your help.

Hello Ian,

Thanks, the FTP works fine now. Hm, I was able to hit this issue yesterday but when I tried to reproduce this again, I wasn't able to hit these "redirection" issues. Are you still able to reproduce this redirection error? Upon signing it I get redirected to EasySocial's profile page which is the correct behavior as per your current settings.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for persevering with this. I found the user worked, which was strange so i tried a few more times with new users and I can replicate the problem every time. Try this:

1. Register a new user;
2. Approve the new user;
3. Login as the new user - this is where it will fail.

If you check the backend, you will see the user logged into Joomla but from the frontend they are stuck as they get the redirect loop.

Hi Mark,

What a brilliant piece of detective work. That would explain why the existing users didn't have the problem. Thanks for working through this and helping resolve the problem.

Fabulous support... what more can I say!

Cheers

Hello Ian,

You are most welcome Glad that your issues are resolved now. By the way, if you use EasySocial, do post a review for it at http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/clients-a-communities/communities/25616 . It would definitely motivate our team

Thanks, I saw that but it isn't really a fix. So we can't use the Force Password Change plugin, then, I guess.

Hello Mary,

Ah, the force password change is a pretty tricky issue because we cannot "intercept" the "redirection". The redirection happens within Joomla's core and when that happens, we cannot tell Joomla that "we'll take care of this". It always enforces the users to get redirected back to com_users

Perhaps, what we could do in the future is to enhance our password field to allow "Enforce password change" while not having it enabled in Joomla. This is to ensure that we are able to choose where to redirect the users to

Hallo Mark,

unfortunately I got the same issue as Ian except that also users that have been transferred can't login.
I read the accepted answer but I still don't get it.
What'S the solution to make it work? Cause now no one can login or register...
Do I have to deactivate one of the core plugins?

Thanks in advance
Best regards,

Markus
