Hi there, I prefer to not have picture avatars for users and was using the Text Only option just fine in the ED5 toolbar before the switch to the SI Toolbar.

When I activate the Show User Dropdown, I get the attached result in the first picture.

When I change the ED5 settings to NOT use text based avatars, the User icon dropdown looks like the 2nd pic.

I believe that the SI Toolbar is not currently able to correctly display the user initials in the toolbar when using text only avatars.
