StackIdeas Support:
I am trying to learn EasyBlog 5 and am having a hard time figuring out how to use templates. I created a layout and then saved it as a new template. Now I want to log into the front end as a blogger and create a new post using the template. My only option is to click on the icon that says "Start creating a new blog post". This opens up a new blog post window and I can't see any way to open my template and then create the blog. What am I missing? How do I open a new blog entry using my template?

Hey Michael,

Did you enable the option "Enable post templates" in the back end settings of EasyBlog yet? You can find it at Settings > Composer > Post Templates . By the way, post templates currently only works with the new composer editor. It does not work with ordinary WYSIWYG editors.

Thanks for the quick reply. I think I did. I attached a screenshot and I have it checked to Yes. I was able to create and save the template. Where I am lost is what to do when creating a new post. How/where do I open a new blog post window and then open the template? I can open a new blog post but I do not see a way to open a template. In the old version I used to create a draft and then save it with a new name when I was done each time. I am assuming that after creating a new blog post and saving it as a template that I can then open a new blog post and use the template as my launching point for the new entry.... But how?

Hey Michael,

To manage existing templates, you can access it as shown in the screen here, http://screencast.com/t/mLpn2lVYvo . If you want to start a new post with an existing template, you must use the composer editor and not any other editor, http://screencast.com/t/Q8CbqYI4N8

If you are using the new composer, you should see a screen like this, http://screencast.com/t/tvAYS2QUGt

If you are editing a blog post that was created prior to 5.0, these posts are being edited using a WYSIWYG editor because the new editor, has rich meta data embeded within each blocks and it's not possible for us to port the old posts into the new composer blocks.

Hey Michael,

Based on your screen shot, it looks like you are using a WYSIWYG editor and post templates doesn't support WYSIWYG editors.

Thanks for the guidance. Yes, I selected the JCE editor because i have always used it for everything because of the added options. I have made the switch and will use the built-in editor. I don't yet know what features I will gain or lose, but I will go forth and experiment and see how it works. I see that immediately after selecting a new blog post that I get the pop-up asking for what template I want to use. I will let you know how it goes...
Thanks again!
