Have you thought about implementing a Sympathize "button" for EasySocial?
Hi,

Please understand that we are not trying to make a "Facebook" clone with EasySocial. As much as "Facebook" is the big brother that everybody is looking up on, we do not blindly just copy whatever they are doing. We evaluate what make sense for our customers.

Imagine if every customers want something unique to their site, we will end up with hundreds of switches and options in the settings, and I am sure administrator wouldn't want to go through hundreds of settings just to set up a site properly.

And as such, we have a voices platform at stackideas.com/voices, so please do post feature requests there and we will implement it accordingly based on the feedback of our customers.

The same as Like button but for sympathizing.

For example if someone wrotes on their wall "My cat died today " it's not suitable to "Like" it, but members could want to sympathize it.

See:

I think it's a great idea that Facebook should indeed incorporate to their system and I'm pretty sure they will... But if this feature would be in EasySocial even before Facebook, that would really show how fast pace EasySocial is developing and how current this software really is.

I really like EasySocial and wish all the success for you.. this is something for you to think about.

Hello Anssi,

I think this feature is very niche and it's not suitable to actually be in the core of EasySocial Imagine if people who are building a dating site with EasySocial, clicking on the sympathize button wouldn't make any sense at all haha

Yea, for sure it's not suitable for all sites, but I think most could use it. I wouldn't call it very niche if Facebook is going to add it.

But of course it could be optional feature, controlled by on/off toggle at the settings.

I also wouldn't say that it could not be useful in a dating site for example.. think about a scenario where someone posts on their wall about date gone bad. You wouldn't "like" it, but you could sympathize it.

Then again, for example in gaming community, people post how they have tried something over and over again, always loosing and are tired of it... again, you wouldn't "like" it but you could sympathize it.

I actually truly think it would be suitable feature for most of the communities, but would be best when implemented as an optional feature with a on/off setting in backend.

But if you don't see it that way, it's fine with me.

Ps. could something like this be developed as an addon? e.g. have a Sympathize button in the stream items?

Could a language over ride of the "like" string work? Anssi, could you do without the like button if this was changed for you personally?

Right, EasySocial certainly has some differences even as of now. The sympathize idea is actually unique from facebook, but is more for niche's as Mark mentioned. Perhaps the word "like" could be changed for the people who want it changed with a language over ride? Or would it require file modification? I personally don't have any need for this, but do find these cases interesting.

Hi,

You can actually use Joomla's language override option instead of meddling with files.

That's what I was hoping for. Great, so if they could swap the "like" with "sympathize" than that can fill in their niche.

I don't think anyone would like to replace like button with symphatize. The idea was about new button.

Yes, I know easy social isn't facebook.

Hello Anssi,

Noted, we'll consider this in the future but I really don't think this should be any part of the core
