Yesterday I bought Easysocial and startet to test it. I installed it on my live-website which is driven by JomSocial and migrated all data. I didn´t publish EasySocial for public yet, all users are still on JomSocial. I created an Admin-Only link to be able to play around with EasySocial with Real Data in a hidden place.

What should I say? The software is as expected from Stackideas: Great, Easy to use, Clean and clear, really nice! I can´t wait to also switch for my users.

Unfortunatelly, also as expected, there are some tasks that are not easy. Mostly it´s about the layout. It seems nearly impossible to me to get EasySocial integrated with my template in the moment. So here is my first "list of challenges" that I have. I try to explain them all in a way, that might be usefull for other users and for the stackideas-developement. There is no order in the challenges, I write them just in the order they come to my mind.

- past Events
There is no way to hide past events. As I migrated from JomSocial, I have events that are a year old ... but still showing up. And they are showing up on the top of the events-list, because there is no way to change the order. How can I hide past events?

- Dashboard at the frontend
The dashboard looks TOTALLY different then the rest of my website. And I can´t find a way to change the dashboard. How can I for example move parts to the other side? For example the "Online Users"-Box is left. I like to have it on the right side, on the top. But I can´t find it as a module. I only find the "external" module, but that´s not what I want to do. I simply want to move the User-Online-List that is on the dashboard in a different position. (and other modules for sure, the User-Online is just an example)

- Navigation-Bar
The navigation-bar is one of the biggest things destructing my layout. It has a different style, a different behaviour and a different colour then the rest of my page. When I publish the Navigation-Bar on all pages, it seems like no page looks "nice" anymore. When I unpublish it, I have no navigation through the whole page.

I would like to get the drop-Down and the three notification-Items and the home-button of the navigation-bar to a complete different place. Maybe it can be shown in my main navigation. And I need to change the style. How can this be done?

All the best, Julian!
Okay, some more stuff.

- I LOVE (!!!) the Easysocial Dropdown Menu. It works fantastic to place it on the top right corner of the page, it is totally neutral in the design and fits into my Joomla-template. But how can I define it to show the EasySocial-Menu? I mean the menu, that is in the dropdown of the navigation-bar? I can choose the Menu-Type inside of the module, but there is no option to choose the "EasySocial-Menu". I guess, it´s not created as a Joomla-Menu. But ... it does not make sense to me, if you create such a nice drop-down-menu but miss it to connect it to EasySocial.

- In addition to that, could you think about integrating the three notification-icons (conversations, activities, friend-requests) beneath the Easysocial-dropdown-menu? This would make it possible to completely deactivate the EasySocial-Bar and match much better my page and in the same moment save a lot of space.

- I have migrated all data for testing-purposes. When I will go live with EasySocial I will have to migrate again, to catch all new data.
Is it possible to do the migration a second time or will it lead into tons of double-users, double-conversations and double-activities?

- JomSocial changed the way they save a conversation. New conversations are wrapped into a tag in the database. Old conversations are not wrapped, so they are not converted. It´s only happening to new created conversations.
Your migration does not sort out this tags. This leads into conversations looling like this:

{"content":"Hi Sanny, \r\n \r\nf\u00fcr mich steht (...)
und jetzt wird es bei mir langsam ernster. \r\n \r\nLust? \r\n;-) \r\n \r\nAlles Liebe, Julian! \r\n"}

Please be aware, that old conversations are NOT converted by JomSocial. Your migrator will have to handele bouth variations, because in the database old conversations are looking normal and new ones are looking like the quoted ones.

All the best, Julian!

And the next issues:

-> I have published the EasySOCial-Toolbar in the top-right-position. I needet to turn of "search" because I haven´t got enough space. All other options are turned on. Now ... the Activities-Icon and the small Avatar-Icon overlap. I think it´s a little bug, because even when I give the bar enough space, it´s responsive, so it shrinks down until it overlaps. If you don´t understand what I mean, I will attach a screenshot.

-> The toolbar-module is published on all pages, to public. But when I am not logged, it doesn´t show up. Any Idea, why this happens?

All the best, Julian!

OMG, this software is really unbelievable fantastic!

Some things are tricky, but there is so much potential inside.
What I did now is:

- I completely disabled the EasySocial-Toolbar
- I published the EasySocial-Menu in the top-Right position and disabled all except the Notification-Icons. This way, I have the notification-Icons in a wonderfull nice way inplemented in my complete website.
- I published the EasySocial Dropdown-Menu in the same position. So I have a really nice top-corner-position with all neccecary data.

The thing for me now is: How can I place the EasySocial-Navigation (like the Drop-Down in the Toolbar) inside of the dropdown-menu?

All the best, Julian!

Hello Julian,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply, we probably missed this thread earlier. Unfortunately you can't actually place the navigation module within another dropdown menu

Hi Mark,

no problem, I had many things to try out in the meanwhile.
I am really impressed ... the software you have built is unbelievable great!

I also wrote a lot of stuff, so I will try to sort it now.
You can ignore all of my previous posts in this thread, I will repeat all neccecary issues in this posting, ok?

Navitation-Bar

Unfortunately you can't actually place the navigation module within another dropdown menu

Wouldn´t it be a more usefull feature to publish the navigation-menu there?
However, as long as it is not I need to place the navigation-bar there. But the navigation-bar has the "overlapping-problem" as soon as I hide the search-field.

Events

There are some things I didn´t find out about evengs:

- How can I hide past evetns in the dashboard
- How can I show a "show all events"-link on the bottom of the events-module when it is limited to only show x events?
- How can I disable "Events" on the dashboard and show only "upcomming events"
- How can I show only events of one category on "upcomming events" on the dashboard?

PM
Your migrator makes errors on the new PM-Format of JomSocial.
Here is how the PM looks:

{"content":"Hi Sanny, \r\n \r\nf\u00fcr mich steht (...)
und jetzt wird es bei mir langsam ernster. \r\n \r\nLust? \r\n;-) \r\n \r\nAlles Liebe, Julian! \r\n"}

Please be aware: JomSocial introduced the content-tag, but did not update it for the old messages. In the messages-table of JomSocial there are some messages saved with the content-tags, some without.

Dashboard
- How can I change the items left on the dashboard? I like to hide apps, move Online-Users to the top, show only users with avatar, stuff like that.
- Can I place the navigation-drop-down from the navigation-bar on the left column of the dashboard?

All the best, J ulian!

Hi Julian,

I am sorry for the delay of this reply.

>> But the navigation-bar has the "overlapping-problem" as soon as I hide the search-field.

Can you capture a screenshot and show us how the navigation bar showing at your site? Or maybe you can provide us your site admin access so that I can take a look at your this issue again.

>> Events
>> - How can I hide past evetns in the dashboard

I am sorry but currently you can't hide the pass events. However, We've added this feature in the next release of EasySocial

>> - How can I show a "show all events"-link on the bottom of the events-module when it is limited to only show x events?

Currently you can't but the good news is, we've added the show all links in the release of EasySocial

>> - How can I disable "Events" on the dashboard and show only "upcomming events"

To hide the 'Events', go to EasySocial backend under themes -> [your selected theme] -> dashboard and disable 'Show Events Filters'.

>> - How can I show only events of one category on "upcomming events" on the dashboard?

I am sorry but currently there is no option to allow admin to set a particular event category on 'upcoming events'

Please be aware: JomSocial introduced the content-tag, but did not update it for the old messages. In the messages-table of JomSocial there are some messages saved with the content-tags, some without.

Issue fixed internally and the fix will be added into next release of EasySocial

>> How can I change the items left on the dashboard? I like to hide apps, move Online-Users to the top, show only users with avatar, stuff like that.

It depends on what you wan to hide and different element use different way to hide. If you want to hide apps, you can do it via EasySocial backend under applications -> select the app -> dashboard tab ( some are under widgets tab ) disable the widgets you want to hide. Please see http://screencast.com/t/CP6unAH7y

Some are Joomla modules, e.g. 'Online Users', 'Recent members' and etc. You can disable the module by unpublished the module from Joomla backend under module manager.

Also, you can position where to appear for the modules. E.g. to move the 'Online User' module, you can set the position to 'es-dashboard-sidebar-top'. Please see http://screencast.com/t/Xcp4cpVoo and here is the link of the available position that you can configure for each page / section within Easysocial. http://docs.stackideas.com/administrators/module_positions/module_positions

>> Can I place the navigation-drop-down from the navigation-bar on the left column of the dashboard?

I am sorry but currently this is not possible at the moment Maybe you can try with our EasySocial navigation module and place this module under 'es-dashboard-sidebar-top' position.

Hope these help and have a nice day

Screenshot is attached.
I will add admin-credentials, but I need a moment to create them.

OMG, it seems to me like I found the "messed-up-part" of Easysocial.
I ONLY want to hide some modules on the dashboard and change the order of others.
I have no clue, which ones are modules and wich ones are Apps. Going to the apps-section in the backed brings me up a list more then 150 items.
I can´t search for the names because I don´t know which app on the dashboard has which name on the backend.
I don´t know why "fields" show up in this section.

Could you please explain me a little the logic behind that?
I give you some easy tasks, could you explain me the how-tos, so I can undetstand the logic?

- I want to move "Online-Users" up to the top.
- I want to hide "Recent users"
- I want to hide "Apps"
- I want to change the sorting of the filter in the "news feed" and show more then only three filters by default.

All the best, Julian!

Hello Julian,

It's actually simple if you turn on the "Template position" in the template options to see which are rendered using modules and which are widgets. The "Online Users" and "Recent Users" are both modules and the "Apps" are actually hardcoded into the theme file. You can modify the file /components/com_easysocial/themes/wireframe/dashboard/default.php and remove the codes below to hide the app block altogether,

<?php echo $this->includeTemplate( 'site/dashboard/sidebar.apps' ); ?>

As for the sorting of the filters, edit the file /components/com_easysocial/themes/wireframe/dashboard/default.php

Hi Mark,

as I am switching from JS to ES my website is a little bit messy in the moment for admins. I have created lots of modules that are only viewable for admins and common users don´t have access to ES yet.

So to test the overlapping navigation-bar you will have to log in and go to this page:
http://www.psychopragmatik.de/community/dashboard

I have created an admin-user for stackideas:
Data is submitted in the tab "Site Details"

Priority for me in the moment is the toolbar.
Feel free to install Extplorer if you need an FTP.

All the best, Julian!

Hello Julien,

Sorry, but I am not really sure if I understand you here about the "overlapping" problems. Would you mind posting a screen shot of the problem? Based on your screen shot earlier, the toolbar module is configured to appear on your template's heading and it does actually show up correctly at the top. Am I missing anything here?

Hi Mark,

yeah, you missed something.
Count the icons in the screenshot. ;-)

First Icon: Home
Second Icon: Friend-Requests
Third Icon: Messages
Fourth Icon: Notifications

The Fourth icon is hidden behind the Avatar with the drop-down.
That is what I mean with "overlapping".

All the best, Julian!

Hello Julian,

Ah, okay I see it now but I really don't think this as an issue with the toolbar to be honest. You have a very restricted width area at the top and there's no more place to actually display the toolbar. Take a look at my screen shot to have a better understanding of your issue, http://screencast.com/t/IBh5ONHd

Hi Mark,

I agree. That´s why I have tested it BEFORE I have posted it here.
For you to check I have deactivated most of the other modules in top-position. The overlapping keeps the same.

If you watch while loading: It loads for a moment correctly and after the page is loadet fully it collapses.
I also tested it with the search-field active. Then the navbar takes two rows, but no overlapping.

So the overlapping is not comming because of missing space. The problem happens as soon as I deactivate the search-field.

All the best, Julian!

Hello Julian,

Ah, okay it looks like this has something to do with the "responsive-ness" of the toolbar. I have applied a "fixed" width so that all of the stuffs within the toolbar would be visible I have added the css codes below into your template's css file /templates/jsn_boot_pro/css/custom.css

#fd.mod-es-toolbar {
width: 300px !important;
}

Hehe, now it works, thank you!

Will this also be fixed in the next releases of EasySocial or will I have to change this after each update?

Btw: Your support is impressive and so I usually try to check the easy things out BEFORE I post a but.
I don´t want to tease you with minor things that I could get solved by myself.

I also wrote a good review on the JED:

Julian as his fix was added to your templates custom.css file, you can freely upgrade EasySocial as many times as you want without breaking it. It is only if you switch to another template, or replace all the template files with a manual update that you will loose the fix.

Hello Julian,

The fix that I provided is only applicable on your site because of the way the DOM is constructed from your template. As Jannik suggested above, the fix that I have applied is on your template's css file and it's custom.css so I believe you should be safe when performing upgrades
