Hi!

I've suddenly run into a problem with the Easy components; suddenly the forum isn't showing (unexpectedly) and Easy Blog isn't loading properly. This is very sudden and unexpected-- would you mind taking a look and seeing if you can identify the problem?

Thanks so much,
Ben
Hello Ben,

That's strange, do you have install any plugin, module, component recently? If yes, you try to disable it and see help or not?
If no, could you mind provide us with your FTP access so we can help you check on this issues? Please advise.

Hi Arlex,

I don't remember installing anything new lately. I'd really appreciate it if you could have a look to see what's wrong. I've provided the ftp access details below. Thanks again.

Hello Ben,

I look throughout your site, could you please ask your web-hosting provider to increase :

max_execution_time = 60

currently it is set to:

max_execution_time = 30

I am also concern with the inode that is approaching to maximum. This may result in installing incomplete component that may break the site. Please clear up some space and if the issue still remain, please re-install easyblog and easydiscuss.

Thanks:)

Ok, thanks for looking into that. How do I clear up some space on the node? I'm not a developer, so I have no technical knowledge at all. Please provide me with as many details as possible!

Thanks so much for your support.
Ben.

I cleared loads of space in the node section of my hosting CP. so now that's not an issue but the blogs and forums pages on the site still haven't changed at all. Could it be something else causing the problem?

Hello Ben,

Sorry for late reply to this,
As my colleague first mentioned that when access with your Easyblog homepage, then getting this error and it not display properly.

Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /home3/eslrok/public_html/eslrok/libraries/joomla/database/table.php on line 234

Could you mind contact with your web-hosting provider help you to increase max_execution_time = 30 to max_execution_time = 120 ? Because your current is set max_execution_time = 30 ( http://screencast.com/t/iarEiIPni ). Also, we still investigate with your issues, after your hosting provider help you increased that value to 120, if the page still getting same issues, please refer back to us, so we can rule out this possibility and continuous check on your issues.

Hi Arlex,

I hope you're well.

This is a response to your last email. I changed hosts in the meantime and they've set the max_execution time to 120 and I still see major issues with both easyblog and easydiscuss, both pages don't load properly. I have no idea why this is. Would you be able to take a look and see if you can find the reason?

I have attached my new server log in details below. Thanks again for your wonderful support, you guys are the best.

Regards,
Ben

Hello Ben,

probably because the memory_limit is not sufficient because I seem to be hitting this error. Is there any way to increase the php's memory_limit ? Currently it looks like it's being set to 150mb and you might want ask your web hosting to increase it to the highest value possible.

Hi Nick,

Hope you're well.

I asked the host to change the php memory limit and they did, it's now at 500MB, but as you can see from the link I've posted here, that hasn't fixed the problem.

And the forums (powered by EasyDiscuss) is broken too. This all happened suddenly and completely unexpectedly and I have absolutely no idea how to fix this. Could you take a look at the link and let me know what you think? Thanks for your ongoing support, I appreciate it a lot.

Hello Ben,

I'm really sorry that delayed of this reply,
I have checked in your Joomla backend Easyblog and Easydiscuss avatar, it seems like your Easyblog Avatar integrations set to "Easydiscuss", then your Easydiscuss Avatar integrations set to "Easyblog", so the Easyblog system will check avatar integration to Easydiscuss, but Easydiscuss avatar integration to Easyblog, so the system will messed up, that why you hitting blank page.

Now i help you set Easydiscuss avatar integration set to "Easyblog", so your Easydiscuss avatar is link to Easyblog now. Please have a look.

Arlex, you are brilliant!

Thanks so much for your support, I really appreciate you fixing it.

I recently moved hosting providers, updated easy blog and also changed my template - and through these various changes, I noticed that some of the previous changes that I made/your customer support team made to easy blog have been lost.

In particular, there are two things that used to be fine, but now need some attention. One is regarding images on the blog front page, the other is regarding a jquery conflict on the easydiscuss page:

1) Image: on the front page, (http://www.eslrok.com/index.php?option=com_easyblog&view=latest&Itemid=599&lang=en) the image used to be centered, now it is left aligned. How can I make it centered? Also, you can see that the image displayed is not the full image, it is cut off near the edges -- this is a problem. How can I make it show the full image? If you look on the website's front page, at the bottom in the module that displays the latest blog articles, you can see what the proper sized image looks like. For some unknown reason, the front page is cutting off the image and it looks very strange. Do you know why it is doing this?

2) I think there is a jquery error on the forum page -- http://www.eslrok.com/index.php?option=com_easydiscuss&view=index&Itemid=582&lang=en. It is impossible to see the Unresolved / Resolved / Popular / Latest tabs because when you click on these tabs, nothing happens. I'm not a developer so I can only guess why this is happening -- is it a jquery problem? How can it be fixed?

Thanks again Arlex for making my site work properly, I hope to have all this development finished soon so I can enjoy it instead of worry about it ...

Thanks again
Ben

Ah, there is one more thing I forgot to mention! On the forum page (easy discuss page), when a user asks a new question, the 'auto suggest / did you mean this question?' function doens't work. I think this might be related to the jquery error. Could you look at it and see what you think?

Thanks again, I really appreciate all your help. Best, Ben.

Hi Arlex,

First Issue:
Thanks for fixing the images problem. Now I see that in the extra space (between the edge of the page and the centered image) the background is black -- so there is a black box. Can we change this to a white background instead of black? And, if it is possible, can we add a thin 1px black border around the images? Is it possible to do that with EasyBlog? Don't worry if not, but the black background around the image looks a little odd, white would be perfect. If you tell me where to find it, I can try to change the css file myself.

Second issue / Third issue (jquery)

I remember that this problem was not fixed last time because while we were trying to fix the problem, the 'php memory + execution time' problem happened so it was never fixed, since more important issues happened before we found a solution.

What I notice is this: on both EasyDiscuss and EasyBlog, the functions that require jquery don't work. That is the tabs on EasyDiscuss (latest / popular / resolved etc.) and the Similar Question function when posting a new question.

The Log In / Register buttons at the top are also deactivated only on these pages. You can see on these pages that the Log in / Reg buttons at the top of the page are fine, they work ok:
http://www.eslrok.com/index.php?lang=en
http://www.eslrok.com/index.php?option=com_jajobboard&view=jajobs&layout=jalist&Itemid=102&lang=en

but on the blogs and forums pages, they are not working at all. I think this might be related to the jquery, I have never seen this on my website before -- and in the past, I never saw this problem even with EasyDiscuss and EasyBlog, the Log in / Reg buttons worked perfectly on these pages. But now, suddenly, only on these pages there's a problem.

I'm not sure why. Do you know why jquery wouldn't work on the blog / forum pages? I looked for jquery settings in the backend, couldn't find any related to blog and forums. This is a critical issue but I'm not a developer, I don't know how to approach it. If you give me some directions, I can contact my developer if you don't know how to find the issue.

Please let me know how to proceed. Thank you again, Arlex.

Best wishes,
Ben

Hi Arlex,

I hope you're well.

Since we last spoke, there have been new components installed on my website and there are a few jquery problems I think, so the jquery issue we were talking about is on hold for a while. I don't currently need support with that, and I'll let you know later on what I need help with.

Right now, I would like to know how to change the default link address for the category, tags, bloggers, overview pages in the dashboard in the easy blog and easy discuss components.

I've attached a screenshot to show you exactly what I'm talking about.

The problem is this: from the blogs main page, http://www.eslrok.com/index.php?option=com_easyblog&view=latest&Itemid=599&lang=en, you can see the black toolbar with buttons like category, tags, archive etc. I want to modify the links for those buttons: currently it opens the page http://www.eslrok.com/index.php?option=com_easyblog&view=categories&Itemid=599&lang=en -- with the itemID as 599. I want to change 599 to '&Itemid=878' (for the blogs) and 879 for the forums.

Is that possible? If you could tell me which php file to look in, I can certainly try to fix it myself.

Thanks so much for your time,
Ben.

Hello Ben Goldie,

I'm really sorry that delayed of this reply,
Unfortunately that is not possible, because i have checked in your both menu item type under the Itemid=878 and Itemid=879 ,
it seems like you set this 2 menu item type to " Articles ยป Single Article", is not set the menu item type to "Easyblog" or "Easydiscuss", so the Easyblog/Easydiscuss routing behavior is not allow this.
If you set 2 menu item type to "Easyblog frontend layout" and another set to "EasyDiscuss Frontend layout", that is possible to change to this 2 menu item id from your site.

Thank you for your reply, Arlex.

So, if I create an EasyBlog page and an EasyDiscuss page, I can forward the control bar to these pages using a page ID?

I only want one set of blogs or profiles per user, I don't want multiple Easy profiles per user. The reason I want to change the itemID for the dashboard links (not the front page toolbar, the dashboard that has my drafts, my blog posts etc) is that, because the My Drafts, My Blogs, etc. pages are very short, I don't want any modules displayed on the right next to these pages. The default EasyBlog (and Esydiscuss) front page has many modules -- but I only want these modules on the front page, not on the user's dashboard pages. So I thought I can link the dashboard links to a new page itemID, and I can set 'no modules' on this ID page.

How do you think I should do this?

Hello Ben Goldie,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply as it is a weekend for us here.
Do you mean that you would like to get rid of all the module when you view Easyblog dashboard page right?
If yes, In my opinion you can create a new menu for select a specify menu type of Entires Layout (Dashboard) -> http://screencast.com/t/RvCNqnjUe
so you can set your module setting don't show the module in this menu item page.
