Hi guys,

I just noticed that EasyBlog has some issues with the Structured Data Markup (Blog Posting). It doesn't properly fill the date fields and there is some information missing like the author name, image URL, height and width. Check here for reference: https://search.google.com/structured-data/testing-tool#url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.chinamobilemag.de%2Fnews%2Fxiaomi-mi-mix-2-grosser-leak.html
Hey Christopher,

I am really sorry for the delay of this reply as it is actually a public day off for us here. These structured data are actually no longer required by Google as they are now prioritizing on AMP and since EasyBlog supports AMP out of the box, you should be fine with search results on mobile devices.

If you take a look at their documentation at https://developers.google.com/search/docs/data-types/articles, these are no longer required on non AMP pages, http://take.ms/iybi7

You may test AMP results on https://search.google.com/test/amp?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.chinamobilemag.de%2Fnews%2Fxiaomi-mi-mix-2-grosser-leak.html%3Fformat%3Damp which is valid

I did some research on this and apparently the BlogPosting structured data isn't needed by Google, but it doesn't hurt if it's there. Actually Google News and other search engines and social media sites make use of it. And after all it is there, so it should work, right? The faulty structured data causes tons of warnings in webmaster tools and I suspect this has a negative impact on my rankings. I would highly appreciate if those bugs (proper date format, image URL and dimensions, author name) could be fixed in the next update.

Cheers,
Chris

To be honest, we intend to remove all of these structured data moving forward. Why?

1. Google already outlined in their documentation that this is no longer supported as they are requiring it only for AMP pages.

2. It uses additional resources to generate these structured data (Although you cannot feel the impact, it still uses resources)

3. It adds more baggage to the page size. Why add something that is not used by Google any longer.

4. EasyBlog already supports AMP page out of the box and it has greater SERP optimization.

Anyway I have tried to applied some changes in /components/com_easyblog/themes/wireframe/blogs/entry/default.php but some of the changes doesn't seem to show up, not entirely sure why. Is there some sort of caching going on in the server? I tried to purge Joomla's cache but to no avail.

Hi Mark,

if you guys are removing the structured data anyways I am fine with it. No need to fumble around with it then.

Thanks for your awesome support as usual!

Cheers,
Chris
