Since a lot of my post have been about consistency I will keep moving in that direction.

Probably one of the biggest set backs I can see is the fact that when viewing your profile you have no Stream Filters other than your installed apps. This forces users to have to move to the dashboard to view their stream and filter with it. Groups and Events also have a better stream filter than that of users.

It would be my suggestion to add the Stream Filters to the users profile page as well. It may be that some users won't want this on their site so having a toggle to turn this on/off might also be a wise choice.

Here are both, side by side: http://screencast.com/t/7Yodn2Qaba3

Thanks,
James
Hello James,

We actually don't add "filters" on the profile to keep the layout more minimal as it's already pretty cluttered as it is right now

Thanks for the response Mark.

Regarding the layout, the groups and events share the same/similar layout as the profiles and they both have the filters. I think you have a valid point but at the same time feel that the administrator should decide the user workflow. If its possible to add it as an option in the template or on the profile type settings that would be great. Of course this is not needed immediately but would be a good addition in a future release.

Thanks,
James

Hi James,

Thanks for the clarification. Perhaps you can voice this out here: http://stackideas.com/voices/easysocial so that your request doesn't get missed and our developers can include this in the future releases.

Thanks and have a wonderful day.

I was writing a comment to this and realising the subject was very old. DonĀ“t seem possible to delete entries so I edited my posy to "Nothing!".

Anyways. The streamfilter on profile is a very good idea! It isnt possible as of now, right?

It existed in ES 1.4 as seen here which was an interesting concept. ES 2.0 does not support profile stream filters. The more I thought about it, the more I realized that it doesn't really help that much to have profile stream filters. Having good apps on the profile that display things like albums, forums, ect. in a way that is simple and easy to access relevant content is the most ideal method. Down the road having things like a profile search, more advanced timeline, and more specific content from apps will be much more powerful in terms of helping users find information they are interested in.

The profile as of right now doesn't need more filters. Stackideas did the right thing for simplifying this part.

On second thought, I was mostly talking about stream filters for the profile itself (as it was in ES 1.4). If we are talking about integrating stream filters to behave like they do on Facebook where the left sidebar acts as a menu and allows you to quickly navigate between pages, feeds, and more; I'm all for that. Basically making the stream blend in with the profile. Ideally it could literally be the left bar on the profile which if done right could actually be better than Facebook's setup!

I saw an interesting quick read on user engagement changes from small menu changes:

I drew up what I believe would be an amazing layout attached to this post.
