Hi everybody,

I just bought Kommento to replace the inbuilt comments of K2. Kommento is much niver and Stackideas has a great reputition. ;-)

However, there are two Issues that I don´t understand right now.

1. Star-Ratings
It seems like the Star-Ratings are double. When I deactivate the rating in K2, I can´t see any rating on the category-view, which I guess is important for the users. When I activate bouth ratings, they are not "connected", I can rate an article with 1 star in K2 and with 5 stars in Kommento.
In addition to that, there seems to be no way to rate an article without commenting it.

I think the best is just to disable the rating in Kommento, but I wonder if you have a better solution.

2. Tree-View
I like to have "nested comments", but while I have put all options to "on", there is no way to "answer to a comment". All comments are placed under the other comments, nothing nested.
Is this a bug or did I miss any setting?

All the best, Julian!
Hello Julian,

The star ratings in Komento is standalone and it is not integrated with K2. If you want to use the star ratings from K2, you should actually disable this in Komento. As for the issues with nested comments, I am not really sure if I understand you here. When you reply to a comment, it will actually display the comments beneath the initial comment that you are responding to. Am I missing anything here?

Hi Mark,

as I have the german language-files activated sometimes the wording might not be the same as in your backend.
Now I changed to english, the term is "Threadet View". I have set this to "on" but comments can only be posted on the top or on the bottom, depending on the settings. I would like to have a threadet view, so a user can answer directly to a comment.

How can this be done?

All the best, Julian!

I am sorry but I really have no idea what you are referring to here. Can you please provide us with the screen shot or the access to your site?

Hi Mark,

sure, but just to make sure:
Do you understand what I mean with "nested comments"?

It´s that one:

Article

Comment 1

Comment 2

1st Reply to Comment 2

2nd Reply to Comment 2

Comment 3

Reply to Comment 3

Every Comment can be commented again, and the view shows all "comments to comments" in a tree-view.

As far as I have understood the settings, this should be possible.
There is a setting for "threadet view", and a setting for the maximum amount of nested comments.
That´s why I thought this feature is in.

But ... It does not work, to comment on a comment. On each (K2-) Article I only can place a comment on the top/bottom of all the comments, but not to one of the comments.

So before I sent you a screen ... do you undestand what I mean with "threadet view"?

All the best, Julian!

Hello Julian,

Yes, it is possible as you can see here, I've made an example in my local and it is displayed in treaded view: http://screencast.com/t/LEa14A88ljY . There might be some issue with your setup. You can provide us your backend and FTP so we can have a better look on your issue here.

Yes, that´s exactly what I mean.
And the little Reply-Button, that I see on your screenshot, is not showing up on my page.

In the moment there are some other developers checking some stuff with JomSocial. I tend to only have one developer in my backend after the other, not at the same time, so they don´t accitentially harm each others modifications. I will sent you admin/ftp as soon as they are ready.

Could you in the meanwhile give me just a little hint:
Which settings in the backend can make the reply-button disappear? I am not sure if I found all settinsgs neccevcary for the threadet view, that´s why I ask.

Here is the page with comments but without a reply-icon.
Public comments are on, so it should show up without any login.

All the best, Julian!

Hello Julian,

Have you turn on this option for your usergroup: http://screencast.com/t/AAGYB0tpmJ ? Its in Komento>ACL.

That´s it, it works now.
The ACL is really not easy to find. ;-)

To go for a little brainstoarming now:
It would be great, if the answers could be collapsed so users only see the main-comments first, and then they can click on "read answers".
This way, the most different comments would be shown on the first page, and then the "deeper" comments on comments can be opened if neccecary.

But however ... that´s just brainstoarming.

Is there any plan or idea of using Eadydiscuss for Commenting K2-Items also?
It seems to me like Kommento is "Easydiscuss light". They are pretty similar in the concept itself. It would be great, to be able not only to comment, but really to discuss about an article.

All the best, Julian!

Hello Julian,

Thanks for the suggestion. We will discuss with our team about it.
Is there any plan or idea of using Eadydiscuss for Commenting K2-Items also?

I'm sorry but I don't get you here. Did you mean you want to use Easydiscuss discussion feature in K2-item? I'm sorry but it is not possible. Easydiscuss is forum component.

Well ... Easydiscuss is not a "Forum" for me. It follows a different concept then all popular forums in the internet.
Stuff like phpBB2, vB, Kunena and others have a different way of showing the threads. This is why Easydiscuss does not "feel" like a forum.
Another example is the way of "marking an answer" and tagging a question as "solved". This are not really forum-features, it is something different.

The name is good: It "feels" like a discussion.
And this different concept gives great potential to find a different way then common forums.

For example a multi-threadet discussion-component that is not built like a forum, but much more like different discussions can be startet on different places. This is why I thought about Easydiscuss to replace the kommento-comments. Easydiscuss could fulfill all kommento-features and much more, if it would be possible to use it with the components. And not to forget: For the old version it was possible. StackIdeas itself published a plugin for that. ;-)

I could imagine that if you leave the term "forum" and find a new term, for example "discussion-board", this could open your eyes for big potential in Easydiscuss, that is not really unleashed so far. ;-)

All the best, Julian!
