Hi there,

I am not sure what happened there but I just noticed that some of my groups do not show anything when you enter the group first (its Timeline). However, when you press on any of the filters, you can see the relevant content.

I have a feeling that i know where the issue came from. I had a user today who deleted their account and left the groups that are effected. I am not sure why it would effect the groups but the fact of the matter is that only the groups that the user was a part of, are now effected.

Also, some of the content is actually gone. Even when you go through the filters. That is very worrying.

There are too many small bugs like this happening lately. I know you guys are working hard but it cases a lot of embarrassment from our end. The last bug was that users could not read a long comment by pressing the ...more button. It took you 2 days to apply the fix on my site. That is 2 days where all of the slightly longer comments could not be read!!

Can you please fix this?
Hello David,

The reason that there's no stream items appearing on the stream is actually because there's nothing to be displayed . It's also due to the fact that the settings for the stream is configured to render stream items from 1 day ago instead. The last update of the group was done a week ago, hence there's nothing appearing on the initial stream.

We are working on a major overhaul of the stream as this behavior isn't really that user friendly at all and it will either get in place for 1.2.16 or 1.2.17

Hi Mark,

I don't think (respectfully) your thoughts make much sense as there is no 'load previous stream items' at the bottom. As I said, this is really embarrassing. Also, this problem was not there yesterday morning so this is not an ongoing thing. This is a problem that only happened yesterday when one of the users deleted their account.

Hello David,

This is something that we are working on and we will release this in 1.2.17 with the improvised stream. At the moment, what you should do is to just generate a single stream item on the group temporarily until we address this stream issue.

The problem has something to do with the performance issues, and also we did not took into consideration for inactive profiles / groups which doesn't generate any stream items. Once we get the stream issues sorted in 1.2.17, most of these would automatically be fixed since we can calculate the total number of items that are visible to the current user.

Hi Mark,

I don't think it is that simple. In another group where we had this problem, we created a single stream item (as before it looked like there was nothing there). After that you could see the new item but when you press on 'load previous stream items', nothing loads. Another problem is that a few stream items can be seen on a person's timeline but could not be seen when you enter a group and also if you go through the filters, you still cannot see them. I managed to solve this by adding a comment and then the item 'attached' itself to the correct group.

I just like to say that it has nothing to do with what you said in your first comment. The problem is not that this is an old item and the system only shows the ones from the previous day. This problem only exists on a few groups (6-7) and at first, did not show any items.

I am not sure that whatever fix you are planning for 1.2.17 will fix it as this is a new problem and has nothing to do with you changing the way you collect the stream items.

This is a bug and I wish you would acknowledge that it is!!

Thanks

I think you have an issue when a user deletes their account and leaves the groups they belonged to, it somehow leaves the system vulnerable as all of our problems started the morning a user deleted their account and the groups effected are ONLY the ones they left.

I look forward to your response.

Hello David,

Yes, that is the exact problem / bug that I have been explaining earlier When you click on the load more, it doesn't have any items to load because of the "date range". This has nothing to do with deleted users and it's a coincident that after deleting that user, your group doesn't have any activities for the past couple of days.

This is the current problem that we have.

1. Stream is configured to pull 1 day's worth of data
2. Today, if there's nothing at all (Nothing shows up but apart from that, the load more also doesn't show up) (BUG because we can't calculate the total amount of stream items and the only way to fix this is to revamp the stream database model which is what we are working on)
3. If you generate a single activity today so that the load more appears, clicking the load more renders nothing because there was no activity yesterday either (BUG again, because we cannot calculate the total amount of stream items, the system tries to pull yesterdays data but since there's nothing, it doesn't display anything)
4. If you have an activity 2 days ago, clicking the load more would eventually show these stream items.

All in all, the only way to fix this for good is to be able to determine how many items the user can view the stream and this is what we are currently working on and it will most likely be added in 1.2.17

Hi Mark,

Thank you for your comment. The thing is on other groups I can load stream items since we launched the site (nearly 2 months). How come the groups that the user belonged to have this problem (the way that you describe it) and on most of our site, we can load as many stream items as we want (not like you described). That is nearly 70 groups that can load as many stream items as they want versus 6-7 which cannot!

That means that whatever revamp you are planning for 1.2.17, I already have on all of the groups other then the ones the deleted user left.

That doesn't make any sense

Hello David,

The particular group that you have deleted the user from works if you click on the load more multiple times. Like I have said in my earlier reply, the problem is that it is a coincidence because the data in the stream is not sufficient enough. Please try to click on the "Load previous stream items" for a few times and you will understand my post above.
