I cant backup my database because there are over 2 million rows in the __social_notifications table

First off, on your part, allowing this table to grow like this seems like irresponsible software development. But maybe you have an answer Im not aware of.

Second, what is the answer to this issue? I need to backup nightly

Hi there,

Currently, each and every notifications on your site will be stored there. The best way for you reduced them are by configuring this settings https://screencast.com/t/WcVgsqWIgy. And it will reduced those sizes but all older notifications will be removed on your site.

This feature will be automated based on your cronjobs.
