Hello Support

I am in the process of updating my Site as I want to buy EasySocial, as soon as the CB import plugin is available! So I changed my template and noticed the following! In the past I used to share articles to Facebook, Linkedin and Twitter. Then I would get a little share count at the bottom of the article. Strangely enough this only ever worked in Google and never in Firefox. Any way if I go here:

http://finalbug.net/index.php

In Google Chrome all my share counts are reset to zero!

Is there a way that I can get these back?

Is there a way that I can get these Social icons in the bottom of a post to show up in Firefox?

thanks

Paul
Hello Paul,

Hm, sorry but I don't quite get you here. When I accessed the site http://finalbug.net/ with Firefox, the social buttons are showing up correctly. I compared it with Google and they look pretty much the same.

Hi Mark, good to hear that they are showing in Firefox. Maybe I need to update my firefox or something!

Let me try and explain the main issue that I am having. Pretty much all of the articles that I had posted on the first page of the Blog were shared on Facebook & Linked in. e.g. the average Article should have anything between 20-30 shares showing for Facebook. I installed another template and these shared numbers got reset to zero. My main question is, is there any way that I can get this icons to show the number of articles that were actually shared and not zero?

thanks for your time

ps I really hope that the CB import function is still on the Easy Social Road map. The last time I checke it was scheduled for version 1.4 of Easy Social which I guess is going to be something like the summer.

Hello Paul,

The only reason that it get's reset is when the "url" is modified. If the URLs are not modified, it should be as it is. Not too sure if you did any housekeeping on the URLs? By the way, we are trying to ship 1.2 with a CB migrator as well (No groupjive migrator yet though).

Hi Mark

First off if you can get CB migrator working I will be indebted to you for the rest of my life. CB is hell on earth and your solution looks amazing. Groupjive is thankfully not a deal breaker for me. Installed it and it drove me nuts

Nope I never changed any URLs. I am thinking aloud here. Before I changed the template the URL worked fine for the shared buttons! eg Facebook 23 Shares and LinkedIn 6 Shares. These URL must be stored some where? I used Akeeba to make up a back up of the site before I updated the template. Worst case scenario. Can I not find the URL in the back up and copy and paste them into the new template to where the blank URL are now?

Hello Paul,

Hm, I find this odd because if the urls of each blog post is the same, then Facebook should render it correctly. Try placing your url at https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/ and see if it helps because there could be possibility that Facebook is caching your site.

Hi Mark

I did as you suggested. And get the following.

Object at URL 'http://finalbug.net/blog/entry/373-meta-data-kindness-1' of type 'article' is invalid because the given value '129219380550965' for property 'fb:admins' could not be parsed as type 'fbid'.

I have to admit this is over my head. In my FB developers account I have several apps. Frankly I do not know which one is related to this issue.

I am guessing that I need to find the place in the Easy Blog back end where this is set up. Find the corresponding application in FB and then replace a number with a fb:admin name??? Either in FB or Easy Blog :-o

If you could point me in the right direction I would be very grateful.

thanks

Paul

Hello Paul,

Are you trying to test on the url http://finalbug.net/blog/latest ? This wouldn't work because we don't have the og:title on the page for the latest entries. It's only visible on the entry page

Hi Mark

As I am sure you guessed I am in way over my head on this one. I was testing using the home page.

http://finalbug.net/

Which when I look in the back end I have the front page going here.

index.php?option=com_easyblog&view=latest

So I guess that is what you are talking about?

What I do not understand is why this used to work. i.e. I shared articles on FB & linkedin and the display counter went up on the blog. The last 20 articles should all have between 20-30 shares on FB, Some Tweets, Google + and Linked In stuff as well. It is as if they have all been reset to zero. I can only think that this happened when I changed the template. If having the Blog on a separate Blog page helps I also have no problem with this. I need to slowly think of how I integrate Easy Social. By the way if you have any tips for me of Sites that are similar to mine, that are now using easy social I would be very grateful. I could take a look at them with a view to gaining some ideas. But back to the topic.

I did a test share here:

https://www.facebook.com/finalXtraining

And would normally expect to see the Counter here increase. But nothing.

http://finalbug.net/blog/entry/373-meta-data-kindness-1

Please see the screen shots. thanks

Hello Paul,

What if the share was done on the share button itself? Does the counter get incremented? By the way, can you please provide us with the FTP access to the site?

Hi Mark

If I share using the share button on the Blog post directly it works. It is only when I share from inside Facebook that it does not work. This used to work. I would copy the link for the article and paste it into group pages on Facebook. If you could take a look at this this would be great.

I have another question. If I ever move the front page layout to a dedicated Blog page, sure the old links from FB etc will no longer work. As I have changed the page link on the blog. But does this also break the FB counter thing again? Do you know what I mean

FTP etc are below.

thanks

Paul

Hello Paul,

When I tested this to post on the Facebook account that you have provided, it seems to be working fine and the share count increased by 1. Perhaps Facebook isn't calculating at the post that was shared on pages any longer?
