Smileys Problem

There seams also to be a problem with Smileys. Users on Smartphones and Handhelds often have Smileys form the Phone its self and from App's. Mostly users use those, but when they do some of them Produce a question mark. Is there a way to correct this?

Maybe a standard smiley for not supported smileys would be a good thing?
We'll see what we can do about this but I believe it's not going to be possible because of different encoding formats but we'll see what can be done

Hello Jean,

They cannot use the phone's built in smileys as these emojis are unsupported. They would need to use the emoji provided by EasySocial.

Yes i know,

but users do not know that, they do just use what they see on the Mobile device keyboard.

You are most welcome I am just afraid that ios and android uses different encodings for their smileys. If I recall correctly, it uses UTF-9 or something to support these large emojis. If they are indeed not utf-8, then it would be impossible to support it since Joomla by default uses UTF-8

But would it be possible to render a square like on Facebook for unsupported emoji instead of a question mark?

Because its kind of iterating when someone posts something with unsupported emoji and then having a question mark.

The problem is there is no way to "detect" these encodings since the page itself is already on UTF-8 :|

We'll see what we can do about this.
