The Vintage theme has an image at the top of the blog that is independent of the blog posts (I think); the big big image. Where may I set that?

I followed your instructions and the image was contained in the blog entry, not at the top of the blog. Is there a way to do this in Vintage? Let's say that I would rather have an image instead of a title for the blog, such as a logo with a background. You can see what occurred here

I am looking to place an image that is either above or directly above the toolbar that appears at the head of the document that would contain the title instead of just a title, just as what I have in another publication on my site, like attached.

Hello Sam,

Ah, unfortunately you can't set "image" on the toolbar of the blog post. The only way to do this is to customize it via CSS or modify the html codes.
