Currently that was no other alternative method to achieve this, unless you modify the code file in Easydiscuss.

Try download my attached file and replace into this following file location and see how it goes?

JoomlaFolder/modules/mod_easydiscuss_recentdiscussions/helper.php
JoomlaFolder/modules/mod_easydiscuss_recentdiscussions/mod_easydiscuss_recentdiscussions.xml

Note : Before you replace the file you have to backup first.
